I could not agree with you anymore,I am with you all the way!!!I believe we should all plan a day that we just don't even crank up anything that runs off gasoline. And do this once a week or once a month until they lower these DAMN prices!!!!

I think if we were all driving Mini-Coopers and motorcycles we might have a case, but since this country is addicted to big giant SUV's, we've proven that we don't care what gas costs any more. We like to complain about it but we won't sell the SUV's and try to conserve.
There's no Constitutional right to drive a car. A car is a luxury and it is very possible to get around without a motor vehicle. It may not be CONVENIENT but it's very do-able. We're just not willing to actually change our habits. I know a number of people who do not have cars--- some live in the city, some live in the suburbs. I have a friend who rides his bicycle to the grocery store--- it's just a mile, not worth starting the car up!
So we would have very shaky grounds, at best, for a lawsuit. When someone harms you, you are legally responsible to do whatever you can to minimize the damage or you hurt your suit. We're not doing that. We're allowing the situation to continue because we continue to use way more oil/gas than we need, and that implies consent. It's like when two people share an apartment and one moves out; if the stay-behind person doesn't try to find a replacement roommate, then they're very limited in how much missing rent they can sue for.
If you really want to hit the oil companies in the wallet--- and help bring costs down--- sell your second car, sell your SUV, take the bus or subway to work one day a week (or more), start a carpool, recycle more plastic (it's made from petroleum), etc. And if you already do all of these things, then encourage your co-workers/friends/neighbors to do the same.

Here's a better solution: tell all the wacko environmentalists to stop pressuring the gov't into new, expensive policies and procedures for refining oil into gas because they're afraid of "global warming". Sue them to keep their yaps shut and let them go live in a dirt hut or something.
Oh, and in case you weren't paying attention, Oil Barrels are at an ALL TIME high.
Oh, wait, why aren't you made at the government? They only take a big sloppy bite out of the paycheck you worked so hard over.
Yes, let's take the oil companies to court, and if we're lucky enough to win, they'll raise their rates to compensate for the big payout. Great strategy.

What would you sue them for? There are no laws in this country that prevent people or companies from making a profit. If you don't like the price, don't buy the product.
Until you get your federal, state and local Governments to pass laws that limit the maximum profit that oil companies can make (Wait a moment... Isn't that Communism?), you don't have a legal leg to stand on.

Unlikely, since oil companies are making less profit than most of the S&P 500....58% of what it costs to fill your tank is government taxes. While the oil companies make billions....based on what they put out, their profit is only 8%. Starbucks charges 5 bucks for a cup of coffee that only costs 30 cents to make....where is that public outcry....???
Check goverments pockets before we start blaming the oil companies......get off their back...they are just just trying to make a profit, unfortunately they pour out 3/4 of a billion to make a billion....and public only is worrying about the billion they made....not the percentage

The problem would be finding a lawyer to take the case or a judge who won't throw it out. Besides they always blame OPEC for the high prices since they control the oil. So then what, sue OPEC?

You need to be able to prove it to win not just believe it. I think the price is being pushed up by rich liberals who keep buying up the oil futures which drives up the prices.

Interesting concept. You can talk to some lawyers, but I doubt if it will come to anything. The government probably wouldn'e let anyone sue them, they're making too much money off of it.
