I can't answer that, but Deborah Tannen is a pop linguist who wrote "You're Wearing That?: Understanding Mothers and Daughters in Conversation." Looks like an interesting book.

Mothers are that way because they worry about all the bad things that can happen to women in the world. Children are the most important people in there lives and they just don't want anything to happen to them. Please don't be mad if your mom doesn't let you do all the things you want to do, she does it because she does care. :)

yeah, tell me about it. my mother is the worse about my boyfriend. she always thinks that everyone is out to get me. i guess we will understand better when we have children huh?!
