It's hard to say, as none of us know the reason why he was denied access to the program. It may be that he was not academically qualified. If that is the case, then it's obviously a good thing, as universities have a right to set and enforce standards. This only makes sense.
If however, he was denied access because of his former position with the government in Afghanistan, then I think that is a bad thing. The Taliban was the rightful government of that country, and were at one time funded and supported by the US. Why should he be singled out and discriminated against. There are plenty of Egyptians and Saudis in US universities. This is where the terrorists come from. Why are they not being discriminated against? Couldn't have anything to do with the fact that their leaders have cozy business dealings with the Bush family could it? Or that the US wants to control (IE. profit from) heroin production in Afghanistan as they did in the Golden Triangle during that other war that most of you have conveniently forgotten?

These things are just too complicated and have too many points of views that it is hard to come up with a decisive decision. One one hand, most Taliban beliefs and ideals are bad. On the other hand, if Yale denied the ambassador just because of him being Taliban, it does sort of promote prejudism, and that is not really good.

Kind of like asking if Yale should accept Castro. We have sanctions in place against this one or that one and the blanket of sanctions covers more than most people know when dealing with a banned group or country.

On a personal level, it makes you wince perhaps because the former ambassador is an individual and in this country, we have individual rights. We expect to be looked at that way and when someone's not, it seems unjust.

However, the guy is with a sanctioned group so don't expect him to get in anytime soon.

I think it's bad. I don't like the Taliban but a person's political
beliefs should have nothing to do about whether they get admitted
to a university. Needless to say,it wouldn't have happened before
9/11. Another shining example of how fear has replaced the
democratic ideals America once championed. Soon there'll be
witch hunts throughout the country like the anti-Communist one
led by McCarthy in the 1950s.

Well, bad, the Taliban weren't the ones to blame for anything but removing 90% of worlds heroin production (bet ye didn't know that one...), kicking the Soviet Union out of Afganistan (see Rambo 3 for details) and keeping a big lump of desert and rocks pretty peaceful despite poverty and loss of (illegal) livelyhood. Oh, and the old-school Islam, but they needed it to be clearly different from Soviets and establish an identity for their new country.

Well, a war needs an excuse, and members of the excuse are denied access to places that have to care about the public.

Bad, and sad, people are to be educated first then denied, if there is no progress. Religious belief is a matter of time, things will change in the future, but slowly and with good fate.
