I am looking to paint my bedroom. I have medium darkness hardwood floors, wood furniture (roughly the same darkness), and a dark blue comforter. I am not very good with colors and am looking for a paint that would go well with that combination.

a great place to go is the behr web sight it let you look at paint color and see what it would look with other colors and what it looks like on a wall or a house and you can even order paint samples.

I used them when redecorating i had the colors i wanted in mind but was wondering exactly what colors if what they would called and went to their web sight save my life found the colors and it was right and winded up being a little better than what i had originally planed.

Hope this helps good luck and enjoy the decorating.

I don't know why everyone seems to stick with the light boring colors. Brighter colors are very in right now along with painted ceilings (not white). Dark blue will go with almost everything as does hardwood. Pick a color that you like for the walls and get a lighter shade of the same color for the ceiling. It will look wonderful!! Take a look at my site to see what a painted ceiling looks like.

The use of color is also something very personal. It stimulates our senses, power our mood, and helps create a particular ambiance. How we respond to an individual color depends on our nature, extroverts tend to feel happy with bold colors, while introverts prefer more passive colors.

Through using specific combinations of color, combined with a careful consideration of simple color schemes is often the most effective.

Try not to use more than one or two principal colors in a room, as well as a contrasting or balancing tone. The best way to choose a background color for the room is to trial with a palette of different shades and tones, in combination with the color and textures of the furniture and materials. Remember the general color schemes of a home have to be in agreement. The walls define the space in a room, while the colors, to a large degree, define the mood.

Colored light, furnishing materials, and structural proportions, we can create a home that is welcoming, helpful, and comfortable. Walls are similar to background music: each color tone is like a musical note can create a pleasant-sounding harmony while others grate with each other.

The color with which we surround ourselves will without doubt have an effect on us, and so it is important to feel comfortable with our choice. A discussion with a professional color consultant can help to decide individual needs and select appropriate color.

Colors can be divided into three main groups: those that stimulate and uplift, those that relax and calm, and those that provide harmony or balance. So, having taken a number of things into thought when decorating a room, such as the size of the space, the amount of light, the function if the room, and the style and mood we wish to create, we finally, and most importantly, need to consider the needs of the people who use it.

We recently purchased a new home and remodeled it immediately. We have cherry walnut floors in our foyer and have decided to paint the living room and foyer this color. We also have the color in our boys room, and it's really a nice shade. Not to dark, and not bright blue. It's a warm color. It's an Olympic paint color. It's a neutral color, a grey/blue color and might look well with your bedding.

You can also choose to go with an almond color(that was our original choice). Olympic also has an almond paste color or a shade called tabu that might go well with your color scheme. You can add artwork to the walls that compliment the color scheme of your walls and bedding as well(meaning it has a little bit of each of the colors in the pictures). You do not have to purchase olympic, you can find that color card at your local lowe's (home depot doesn't carry olympic products) and take it to a local paint store and they can do a match on it with a cheaper, quality paint of your choice.

Just go with what you feel comfortable with. It's your home, you should go with your style. don't be pushed into buying a color just because someone says it looks right and that's what they would do. We had so many sales people telling us what "we" wanted, when it wasn't what we wanted at all. And I made sure to let them know that they can do whatever they want in their house, but this is MY house and I'll decorate it to my tastes. And I love it!

Have fun!

Go to the library and find a book on color for redecorating. You need to discover if you want to go with 2 or 3 color pallattes in your room. The books will show you complimentary color arrangements.
You can also go to the local Home Depot / Lowe's and see a consultant. Look over their books and recommentations. If you see a book you like, write down the title and author and check it out of the library.
It is also close to the time for county fairs and expos. There are alot of professionals at booths that can help you. Take photos and swatches with you when you go.

It depends on the atmosphere you are going for. For a calming room, I think a nice dusty gray or a beautiful sand tone would look great with the medium tone of the wood and the dark comforter.

Since you have so much darkness in your room, you need to paint it very light. I would suggest an ivory tone of paint and then on one wall I would sponge or rag (you can buy rollers that do it for you and you just have to roll the paint on the wall) a darker color, perhaps a blue that matches or accents your comfortor.

I can't help but picture yellow walls with this configuration... Not a harshly bright (ie: lemon) yellow or pastel yellow, but a refined, rich shade... like an antique yellow. I think yellow works well with dark blue, and would certainly add warmth and brightness.
