Ping "G" series are pretty good for beginners, but as with ANY brand name, you are going to pay thru the nose.

Click on the "Irons" link, and check out any set. They have a chart that tells you how easy they are to hit, and for what handicap the clubs are recommended. I ordered my clubs from these folks and had a great experience.

The NIKE OSS is a good and forgiving club to start with..you might also like to try the Mizuno T-zoid,cleavland CG4 or Callaway x-18...

The easiest irons I have ever hit are made by Ping. As far as the metal woods I would go with TaylorMade.

A used set of Tommy Armours should work well. Make sure you re-grip.
