Please go to your doctor and make sure you have no underlying medical conditions that would make it difficult for you to lose weight in a healthy manner. Hypothyroidism is one condition that can hinder weight loss. Make sure you are eating a balanced, healthy diet. Ensure that you are eating approximately the same amount of protein and carbohydrates for each meal and snack and yes, do snack - it keeps your insulin levels at a much more even keel which reduces hunger pains considerably. Get moving! Walk every day if you can, even just a little bit and then increase your times. Play outside games with friends, ride a bike, in other words, get active. And remember that you will not be perfect all the time and can get back on the right track if you should fall by the wayside occasionally. Look for foods that can satisfy those cravings you have (such as frozen yogurt instead of ice cream, fruit and low fat cheese instead of chips or cheesies). Make sure you don't short change yourself on your calcium intake. So keep drinking milk (low fat now) and eating low fat cheeses and other dairy products. You're still growing so you need those good building blocks to keep you healthy. You CAN do it and just take one pound at a time. I have done it myself and have lost 30 lbs over the last 5 months. AND remember that the changes you make need to last you a lifetime. You are changing your lifestyle, not just "going on a diet".

The best advise, talk to your parents, and a family doctor, ask for help. Take walks, ride a bike, or swim. Get involved in some fun exercise programs. Enjoy yourself, and have fun. Stay active.. a 12 year old's body is always changing. Do things wisely.. and not in a hurry.

Not to sit on the couch all day watching tv, playing video games and eating chips.
I suggest, start working out, play sports, go swimming. Start jogging or running once a day, start at ten minutes and work your way up as the days go on. And start eating right, eat less of junk food and eat more of the foods that are good for you.

Making dietary changes is your first line of defense in treating hypothyroidism. Learn here https://tr.im/iKiVT
Many people with hypothyroidism experience crippling fatigue and brain fog, which prompts reaching for non-nutritional forms of energy like sugar and caffeine. I’ve dubbed these rascals the terrible twosome, as they can burn out your thyroid (and destabilize blood sugar).
1. Just say no to the dietary bungee cord. Greatly reduce or eliminate caffeine and sugar, including refined carbohydrates like flour, which the body treats like sugar. Make grain-based carbohydrates lesser of a focus, eating non-starchy vegetables to your heart’s content.
2. Up the protein. Protein transports thyroid hormone to all your tissues and enjoying it at each meal can help normalize thyroid function. Proteins include nuts and nut butters; quinoa; hormone- and antibiotic-free animal products (organic, grass-fed meats, eggs, and sustainably-farmed fish); and legumes.

First, you should figure out if the weight is good for the height. if not, exercise always helps. they're still young, and it isn't as hard to lose weight as it would be if they were older.
