We are currently at Ft. Lewis (hate it!!), previously stationed at Ft. Sam Houston, TX(loved it!!0. We want to be near home (Houston) just in case my husband deploys again.

Yup about 90% of the people here, hate it. The others are from WA so they dont know any better.

I didn't like Fort Hood when I was stationed their at first but now that I am gone I kind of miss it.
I would go back if given the chance.
Good call going home if he gets deployed, When I got back from Iraq with 4ID as an MP I saw lots of wives come on post at closing time with a guy who was not their sponsor when the bar closed. We called it "operation lonely horse". It is better to go home where you have a real support network and not a bunch of wives who half of whom just cause problems.

So you hate Ft Lewis, you liked San Antonio, & you want to be near Houston? Where's the question? You want my take, go to Ft Hood. It's a nice big base with lots of resources, in nice area, close to very pretty Austin/lil farther to Dallas/about three hours I guess to Houston. No question I'd take Ft Hood, might even see you there in a year.

I would go to hood. I was stationed at fort Lewis. Even though mt rainier is cool and there is lots of cool things to see in Seattle. After you've been to the space needle and been skiing a few times its time to move on. Second I found what at fort Lewis PT consists of a trip to Denny's. It rains so much that no one wants to do PT. I gain huge weight when I went there from Korea. I have been to hood but only briefly I don't really know the surrounding area very well. But my wife is from Texas and the people are much cooler they all don't suffer from SAD syndrome from all the rain. yeah go to hood. Remember hood deploys a lot so you might not get to see it much :) good luck and keep your head down and your chin up.

You have already answered your question. Ft Lewis sucks, just like Bangor sub base sucks because of the weather. 90 days straight sunshine in the summer, 0 days the rest of the year. You could also move to Ft. Sill in Oklahoma and be close to home depending on job description. Good luck where ever you end up.

Go to Fort Hood....its the best...my cousin is stationed there and some of my friends.....And its pretty warm...
