Perhaps so someone in the back seat can get money. Perhaps someone in a limo or a friend in the back seat. My boyfriend and I took a friend for food and we just drove the back seat up to the drive tru we did not want food. Also those machines are standardized. It would be more expensive to make different machines and people walk up to those anyway. It in no big deal, but it makes for an interesting joke.

You are not required to have a car when you use an ATM. Same for fast food drive thrus, you can walk through them legally. Blind people can walk

ATMs are pretty much standard. A model that can be used at a drive-thru can just as easily be installed at a walk up location.
