Nope, you don't need to burn the fat off first to build muscle, but burning off the fat will make it show more.

Start lifting and as you increase your muscle, you will start to burn off the fat too.

You should probably buy a book or pay the local trainer at the gym to get you started.

Body for Life is one easy to follow program that is very effective. There is a website, and a book.

Good luck.

While you have to lose fat to look trimer you have to have muscle to burn the fat. No two ways around it. Also the fat is your body's fuel.

First you need to either cut your calorie intake or up you calorie burn. Both can be hard to do. So start with and achievable goal. Most people set goals that are to grand and when they fall short they give up. Start with ,as an example, limiting you calorie intake to 1500 to 2000 a day. Try to burn this many everyday. Doing this for a week or two will help get your body adjusted to the new way of things. During this time you need to increase your activity and I would suggest that you look at getting a trainer or a training partner or both. This is so you have a constant rminder of what you are trying to achieve. You are less likely to fail or quite if you have some else depending on you or coaching you through it.

Go Luck
