They are female and male. We've had the male for about a month and the female for about six months. I think that the female is pregnant. ( my dad and mom both raised parakeets and they bothe said that they are going to lay eggs ) I was just wondering how I could tell if she is pregnant and if she lays eggs, will they hatch even if they are in a small cage?

I do not condone breeding birds, but since its probably too late to prevent this, there are several things to do now, provide shredded paper towels for after the eggs are laid. Parakeets prefer to lay on a bare surface, they will try to rip up the bottom of the cage to make a clean place for the eggs... once they are out, generally the first clutch will only be two or three eggs, maybe four.- Be sure to keep the cage in quiet area of the house, leave the birds alone, keep the food and water fresh... do not hassle them leave them be. Cover the cage all but the side away from where they can see people... let them feel they are "hidden" and let them make a family.
Leave the eggs alone after they lay their eggs, the babies will hatch in about 21 days, at that time you can buy baby bird food and mix it according to directions and smear about six to eight drops of thin mix onto a quarter slice of whole GRAIN bread and put it in the cage where the parents can find it; be SURE to provide the birds with fresh chopped greens and carrot slices or shreds... every day... the baby food on the bread every day till the babies are about three weeks old, then you can cut back some... that way the babies will want to see what their parents are eating.. .they will teach the kids how to eat by example... you can begin to handle them WITH GREAT care...... baby birds do not have to be hand fed to make them tame.... they can easily be tamed by being very soft and gentle with them from the beginning......

The first 3 people are idots dont listen to them.
Birds do get pregnant.
You dont have to have a nest box but it would work better and be more successful, the birds will be more comfortable as well.
Make sure you provide plenty of nesting material.
Do some more research on the subject, talk to people at pet stores and people who have bred birds
The internet has great info.
I wish you the best of luck

Relax! They know what they are doing let nature take it course. If they are in a small cage with a nest box it is ok. You said your parents raised Parakeets, they should be able to instruct you about cage size, egg incubation, and be able to check on the birds to make sure everything is ok with them. Below are some links for you about Parakeets.

if the eggs break, then the shells are too thin; you need to offer calcium, clean eggshells are fine...unless conditions are just right, chances are they won't sit on them.....I always praise my birds for their eggs even tho I don't give them the nest box etc.(the things they need to be successful). I usually say "Oh, you have a pretty eggy! Good birdies!"
