Been to Aruba 12+ times. We do not have to go all inclusive. The food is excellent and affordable. Beaches are as beautiful as any others I have seen throughout the Caribbean. . . powder white sand and clear blue waters.
There are plenty of accommodations also in every price range. Aruba is a desert island and receives little rain, so no worry about spending $$$ to sit in a hotel room staring at the walls for days on end.
Many people choose all inclusive package vacations in the DR, Mexico and Jamaica. Then they never leave the resort and see the area or get to meet any of the locals. IMHO, you miss out on a lot. Isn't that part of the reason why we travel?
Would like to try to visit Anguilla sometime, I have heard they are both similar. But it is more expensive than Aruba.

Yes I have been to Aruba and I did like it. Aruba is a very nice place to visit. It has great beaches and hotels and plenty of nice restaurants. It also has a few casinos in several of the hotels. There is not much to do in Aruba other than beach stuff. You can tour the island in half a day; you’ll see the lighthouse, a national park that’s kinda like wilderness, a cave with some petroglyphics, and a natural bridge where the water comes under it and washes onto a small beach. You really don't need a car in Aruba, there's not that much to drive to see. You can easily take a public bus to town from the beach areas. There are lots of water sports in Aruba including jet skis, snorkel and scuba, parasailing and wind surfing and just lounging on the beaches. The casinos are nice, but small. The restaurants are expensive. The best thing about it is its beaches.

I went to Aruba 2 years ago and loved it. It was very hot especially during the summer. The iguanas are in touching distance. It is so fasinating to see a lizard that long up close. The country can be traveled around in maybe a day. The food is great and the people are nice. If you are a female, I suggest not walking around by yourself. The men can be rather aggresive.

totally ignore the first answer, that usually comes from someone who has never been there and believe the cnn news is the bible, THE NATIVE people there is by far the best thing about the island
p.s. wrong again, the island of st. martin is the dirty island by far compared to aruba, and jamacia, many people who lived in jamacia have come to aruba for work because their island is getting way too violent, but then again you know what opinions are all about

Well I'm not sure where these people went, but i went to Aruba last December, and saw something totally different. first off i went on a cruise, but was there long enough. we went on a jeep tour, and were they took us all i saw was a lot of cactus and desert like land, when we got out by the water, on our jeep tour, we saw a lot of trash washed up on the shore line and not just here or there. this stuff was every were. most of the islands have trash, because of hurricanes and lack of land for land fills. but this was worst than any of the islands i have been to, the people i have to say were very friendly, but are trying to turn off the heat of the Natalie thing. if you want to go some where and feel like your in the tropic's. i would much rather go to Jamaica, the V.I or even ST. Marten. i can not think of the island but it starts with a c and is very close to Aruba it is also very nice.. maybe i just was expecting something else but my shelf i would never go back. i think there is a lot nicer islands

Me and my husband went on a cruise a few years ago and one of the islands we stopped at for the day was Aruba. I loved it!!! I didn't want to get back on the boat - I wanted to stay there. The weather was perfect - hot and sunny but had a beautiful breeze. We rented a truck and drove around the island for a few hours. The beaches were gorgeous - white sand and beautiful blue water. We did a little shopping and at night we went to a bar/restaurant that was soooo much fun - Carlos and Charlies.
If you plan on going, can you take me??? Please!!!

Best thing is the weather. The people are all very friendly. Shopping downtown Orangestad is great. T-shirts are very reasonable priced. The ocean on the dessert side is bright blue with beautiful and powerful waves. The sea on the other side is like aquamarine in color and very calm.
