At least I read that time started 13.7 billion years ago. But how could anything be in existence if there was no matter 13.7 billion years ago?

the word "eternity" has been Miss-defined in today's modern culture. An eternity is not infinite time without beginning or end.

An eternity is one of these 3 categories that is the fundamental separation and management of time from god's perspective in relation to creation:

1) time with no beginning, but with an end

2) time with a beginning and an end,

3) time with a beginning and no end

the fundamental difference of time related to creation is the specific events that occurs in each eternity (1,2,3) that fundamentally alter the next. (things happened in 1 that affects 2, and events happen in 2 that sets up 3)

what this ultimately means is that man cannot determine the age of the universe because it has no age. What you read probably was the canalization of certain things in the universe, conducted by man that, at best found out the time-span that is within the second eternity, (number 2)

All this is documented in the old testament in the books of Jeremiah, and proverbs. It also is documented when God said "From eternity to eternity, I am the LORD"

In the new Testament, Jesus Christ speaks of the everlasting age to come as well as the eternal kingdom and the eternal condemnation of the wicked......, hence, the third eternity (3)

A better question might be:

How can the universe have started about 13.7 billion years ago if God is eternal?

Maybe it's the same way there can be a restaurant at the end of the universe!

If a tree falls in the forest and know one hears it does it make a sound. If the universe was made 13.7 billion years ago and no one seen it was it there

Just about 13.7 billion years ago, God, who is eternal and created all things including time, decided to begin His Creational Activity.

You are applying human science measurements to God.

And first off, the age of the universe is based on a theory (using the Hubble constant or something like that). Second, what happened before the Big Bang theory? Even if there were just one hydrogen atom that started it.......where did THAT come from?

Some would argue that God is a theory too, but honestly there is more proof to Him than anything else.

PS - We humans do not have the capacity to fully understand God. That is why we wrestle with faith and belief so much.

God is eternal. The universe is not. Nor is it 13.7 billion years old.

i assumed the universe is older than 40 six billion years. or is it that the purple SHIFT purely supplies an phantasm of such an previous age galaxies come and pass! this tells me that the a protracted time of alternative galaxies may be older and exist without the presense of the different galaxy. this tells me that God created the beginning up of the universe and later Jesus got here to this planet and terra formed the planet to our particular desires. yet another difficulty christians over seem, till now this universe grew to become into created, God had life, for this reason he had yet another place the place he referred to as domicile and heaven. this universe grew to become into no longer made out of no longer something the incontrovertible fact that i'm a witness of jesus proves there's a messiah and he's saviour. which proves it quite is extra helpful to obey God and the commandments even till now faith is performed. the life of Jesus as genuine living being proves there's a kingdom of rules and of righteousness, meaning there are criminal issues that very own this planet and the human beings in it. without the legalism, we'd be forged out of the dominion constantly

SURELY YOU DON'T BELIEVE ((( MEN ))) ACTUALLY KNOWS WHEN THE UNIVERS STARTED.
Ro 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Ro 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Ro 1:23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Ro 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
Ro 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
MEN CAN'T EVEN GET THEMSELVES PAST THE MOON!!!

Those are questions that go unanswered. God created time and the universe, but He existed before that and exists now. Some things are too big for us to understand, but all will be revealed to us when Jesus comes back for us. That's what faith is about.
