I don't understand the question. There are most certainly sniper teams in Iraq. The typical profile right now has been overwatch for urban operations. They do engage targets they feel are a threat to squads moving on the ground. It is very difficult though. It is hard to identify targets... If a person looks suspicious in civilian close up the block from a squad, what can you do about that except tell them to keep an eye on him. You can't know what's in someone else's brain or if they're going to pull out an AK & start blasting till they do it. When you're talking about a crowded street/market, you can't cover every suspicious person. Don't get me wrong, I think there has been some missed opportunities to use sniper elements to achieve psychological warefare goals, but they aren't supermen from video games. It's real life in a dangerous place with rules of engagement.

how does one "accelerate" a sniper team? Launch them from a catapult?

And...

Umm, I think anything involving the delivery of precise fires and heavy arms target acquisition would have an adverse impact on anyone sitting on the receiving end.
