My great great great grandmother's name is Ann Rhodal according to her son's death certficate. She was born in England (also according to son's death cert) and I'd guess she was born 1770's-1780's. She married Richard Harris. I have never (not even by googling) got too many web hits on the surname. I'm not even sure it is English by nature. If I change the spelling to Rodel and search I get a lot of hits for Switzerland. I have looked at British Parish records for marriages with the bridegroom named Harris and nothing comes up. Any other ideas, thoughts or suggestions are very welcome. Thanks for your time.

Well, I can't really imagine that "Rodel" was changed into "Rhodal" as both can be pronounced easily in English.

Are you really sure, that "Rhodal" was her surname and not a second first name...? In the US, there seem to be a handful of persons with the surname "Rhodal", same in the UK. And nobody in the world seems to have registered a web domain www.rhodal.* - really nobody!! That's strange.

Perhaps you can contact everyone you catch carrying this surname, by luck someone has done some research before.

In Switzerland there aren't many persons with the surname "Rodel" - be aware that "Rodel" has some real meaning as well as the name of two things here.

In case you are convinced of the Swiss origin, you might contact the Swiss village with the most inhabitants carrying the name "Rodel" - the website is in German, but surely you will receive an answer by the administration.
