NO.
Teach your child that his/her TV viewing must be monitored. Telephone calls must be monitored. CELL PHONES for kids is absolutely silly, until the child is old enough to fend for themselves. And only then, should the cell phone be considered an emergency device.
Wake up, and don't be a push-over parent. Keep up the good work, and teach discipline, character, honesty and the things that we respect in good citizenship.

I've only known a few kids growing up that didn't have tv's in their rooms, so I guess it must be a regional thing. Cell phone's too probably would've got around to us if they weren't so bulky and expensive back then. The only reason I see why not to give the kid a phone is because they might break it. Kids can handle it as long as parents can control it, and geez, is it that difficult to be a parent these days.Take the phone away, lock channels on the tv, it's not that difficult. Anyone ever seen the firefly phone designed specifically for kids 5 to 12. A cell could be very handy to have, so the kids can check in when they're out with their friends.

I have a 6 year old with cable in her room. and as for the cell phone, i think it depends on what you are going to be using it for! I have 10 and 11 year old daughters who share a cellphone, but they only have it if they are away from the house and may need to call for a ride or something.

Yes to the tv, and no to the cell phone. Cause trust me, you dont want a cell phone, your parents will call you every second asking where you are and telling you to go home early and find out what you are doing and try to get in your life. And theres no problem with having a tv with cable.

By the age of 11, a privilege is gained to have a cell phone. Kids need to keep in touch with their friends and family. Cable TV, you can possibly receive it if you behave very well.

Of Course. I've had cable since I was 7. That was 16 years ago. I had a tv in my room since I was two. A cell phone is a necessity, there's so much going on nowadays that everyone should have one. Just make sure she doesn't use it during school.

depends. if your daughter is always with friends or always being babysat by someone, i think that she should have a cell phone for emergencies. i mean what if she's out with her friends and something goes wrong, like some predator is following them around, a cell phone would save her -- she could call the cops and YOU. same thing goes with the babysitter. if for some reason her babysitter is abusing her, she can use the cell phone to get help. as for a tv, if you guys have one in the living room, then i don't think it's necessary for her to have one in her room. she's too young. she may watch too much tv and spend more less on homework, which will make her grades lower -- not a good thing. anyways, if she's not out much or isn't babysat, it's not necessary for her to have a cell phone.

For the TV, it depends on the 11 year old. But it should definitely be an EARNED privilege. As far as the cell goes, I think you all have them, and I don't understand it. But I can see the use of one of those new ones that only allow you to call like 3 pre-programed numbers for staying in contact with parents.

I don't think ANYONE should have a TV in their bedroom, but especially not a young child. They mess up your sleeping.
As for cell phones, they make some now especially for kids where parents can program key phone numbers (e.g. Mom, Dad, neighbor), for emergencies. That might not be a bad idea, but I don't know what else an 11 year-old needs her own cell phone for.
