I'm guessing you mean gifted or talented. Usually, reading at an early age is a good sign. There are tons of books and sites that talk about child development stages and the ages for them to normally occur. Check some of those out.

Prodigies...you'd know. If your child was a prodigy at art, drawing a rather accurate, realistic looking cat like a ten year old would at age 3 is an example of a sign.

Do you mean prodigy or do you mean gifted and talented? My daughter is gifted and talented, but ‘prodigy’ refers to a child of extraordinary exceptional giftedness in a specific area, and because it is so pronounced it should be so obvious that it stands out like a sore thumb for anyone to see.

There are lots of books which can give you an idea of the normal development rate of a child. If they can read by the age of 3 that's a pretty good sign.

But as the years go on they get dumber.
