I'm going to NY in a couple of weeks, and am scoping out some fun things to do in Greenwich Village. I'm not looking for "tourist" things, but more "underground" fun places. What are some good bars, clubs, stores, art galleries, places to eat....etc?

Here's one that is not on the map there is what we call the " underground" it's a club underground the music is awesome all styles of dance to rock to punk to hiphop. there are a few goth clubs as well in the village as they as gay bars and clubs you just how to follow the crowds, there is a beautiful italian resturant very expensive there but worth every penny in the village, the art galleries aren't that close there more up town, art galleries and stores are more of a manhattan thing not much for the village, there is some what of shopping, the village is more goth and gay and underground night clubs that's where they say the city trully never sleeps. But i would if i were you ask someone on your travels there for the " underground" and i am sure you will find exactly what your looking for.

hope that helps somewhat :D

Girl, just walking around the Village at night (not alone) is fun. The weirdest and often coolest people are out and about. Just walk aroud and check out any place that looks interesting. It's never boring in the Big Apple!

Things I miss about Manhattan:
Rusty's Ribs at 73rd & 3rd & the Palms restaurant at 42nd @ 2nd.There's also a great Chinese restaurant on 2nd ave. across from the Palms.

In the Village though is Margherita's. Good, reasonable food, and the waiters sing, at least they used to.
