it is generally safe, the media exaggerates it though. It also depends on which city and country u will be serving.

Why it is safe? You make it what you want it to be. I don't know of any officer that has ever been reticuled or jumped on for letting a speeder go with a warning. You treat people how you want to be treated, polite and courteously and you will go far. I'm sure you've seen the video of the big officer and the little guy in the SUV that rips up the ticket. The officer started that altercation and added fuel to the fire by how he was talking to the guy.

Why is it not safe? There are some officers that let the badge and gun go to their head and think they are super-cops. That give the rest of us a bad reputation. People have guns, know where the vest is, and know what to do to kill us.

It takes someone special to do this job. The good outweighs the bad. I've been at a fair and had a little girl about 4 years old come up to me and tell me she was lost. She knew she could trust an officer and knew who to look for. I wouldn't let the scare of getting shot tomorrow take moments like that away.

I am a police officer and I do not think about the danger when I leave the house. I know at any time I may show up in the wrong place, go to the wrong call, or meet the wrong person. It is a gamble on a day to day basis. I never know if I am going to come home.

Beyond that, allways being on gaurd no matter how little of a call you are on, how little of a traffic stop you are on, where you are at and when......the danger is allways there.

You may approach a guy to give him his wallet he droped and he may shoot you beacuse he has a warrant you don't know about or he is a murderer or something like that. You never know who you are talking to.

If you remember all of that......you are safe for the most part, you don't allways go to very bads calls that are dangerous, but you never know if or when your time will come when you go to work. Sometimes it is the little calls.

If you can put all of that behind you and you have the will.....I say go for it.

depends on the crime rate of the area
keep in mind law enforcement normally doesn't pay well and is considered to have a high divorce rate partially because it is shift work, pay isn't always great, and the concern from the spouse just be aware of what you could be getting yourself into

It is actually safe. The statistic i read was that a cop has a 2% chance of being mortally wounded. This is an average, Im sure it's higher in very high crime areas.

Well, your job is gonna be to go and arrest someone who has done or is doing something to someone else, and they don't want you to arrest them, as a matter of fact they REALLY don't wanna go to jail and interrupt their "flow" so they just might harm you to get away, In short if you are asking this question sincerely, then please do not consider Law Enforcement as a career choice.

Any job has its dangers, plumbers get electric shocks, or snake bit under a house, A electrical lineman is out on poles in the middle of lighting storms.

In most of the areas, it is not that bad, more of a chance to get sued than hurt.

Yes, reasonably so, Remember your training, officer safety, and keep your head o right and you should be fine. Only a very small percentage of officers ever even pull their weapons to shoot
