In a word, NO.

The FDA lifted the ban on Ma Huang ephedra on april 14th of this year. Check the reference link below for more info on the ban.

If you're looking for a good supplement with ephedra, try herbalean - the remixed formula from the people that made MetaboLife 356. I've been taking it for a month, and I'm losing weight and have a TON of energy.

Dietary supplements that contain ephedra have been banned in the United States since April 2004. FDA banned the products after it determined that ephedra posed an unreasonable risk to those who used it.

Ephedra, also called Ma huang, is a plant or herb that contains ephedrine, a substance that is regulated by FDA as a drug when created chemically in the lab. As such, it is subject to strict federal standards for safety and effectiveness. However, ephedra has generally been marketed as an ingredient in dietary supplements, which are not bound by the same strict standards as drugs. Nevertheless, under a 1994 law, FDA can remove a dietary supplement from the market if it creates an unreasonable risk of illness or injury.

FDA has long regarded ephedra-based dietary supplements as potential health hazards. Substantial evidence of harm emerged in 2003, when a major study reported more than 16,000 adverse events associated with the use of ephedra-containing dietary supplements, including heart palpitations, tremors and insomnia. The study also found little evidence that ephedra is effective in boosting physical activities and weight loss -- as claimed by its promoters. FDA subsequently determined that ephedra presents an unreasonable risk of illness or injury. On April 12, 2004, the agency's final rule prohibiting the sale of dietary supplements containing ephedra went into effect.

Ephedra, the Ma Huang plant, in its whole form has never been banned, only the isolated alkaloid ephedrine. I get cut and sifted ephedra from http://www.bouncingbearbotanicals.com and make myself pills for when I am sick. The plant contains pseudo-ephedrine (same alkaloid that is in Sudafed) as well as ephedrine so it works wonders for cold and flu symptoms. I do not recommend this plant for weight loss, instead research Hoodia cactus. http://www.desertburn.com
This site sells the highest mg. Hoodia pills on the planet, they are certified by C.I.T.E.S, USDA, SOUTH AFRICAN CYTO, and have undergone HPTLC tests to verify potency. This company pays royalties to the native bushmen. Hoodia cactus is a powerful appetite suppresant and a gentle stimulant which helps burn fat. My sister lost tons of weight using these pills.

NEW YORK (CBS) "Imagine not being hungry all day without feeling side effects typical of diet pills, like a racing heart or queasy stomach." That's what Correspondent Lesley Stahl said she experienced when she took just a few bites of the Hoodia plant in the Kalahari Desert, for a report on 60 Minutes. "
Source: CBS 60 Minutes

This plant has been used by the south african bushmen for hundreds of years to ward off hunger, they take it with them hunting so they can go days without food.

My sister said she took only 2 when she woke, and 2 one hour before dinner. They are the only thing that really worked for her and she has tried many other things. She also said she didn't experience any side effects like with other stimulants she tried.

Hoodia cactus has been shown to be a safer alternative to ephedrine, caffeine, guarana, etc. because it has little to no effect on blood pressure and heart rythm. Scientists have found that Hoodia contains a molecule which imitates glucose so that your hypothalmus thinks you have eaten, the result is you feel full. good luck!
