Look at the studies. Immigration only works if the people can contribute to society only if they can add to the economy with investment or badly needed high paying skills. In fact, illegal immigration and LEGAL immigration of an overwhelming majority of unchecked entrants that are unskilled HAVE THE EXACT SAME EFFECT to our economy, identity, and to our people.
Here's one study, but in effect they all say the same thing:

Preference should be given to the ones most likely to benefit this country, which means the most educated, skilled, rich etc.
That is why all countries' immigration laws are slanted to let those people in.
The United States is not a charity for the world.
We subsidize education and services for our poor here, which means their better life is at the expense of our children and people. We let some poor immigrants in, but need to limit the amount of that category because of the strain they cause on services.
Schools are failing in our border states and areas where illegal aliens concentrate. This demonstrates the idiocy of high immigration limits for poor immigrants. I feel for the poor people whose lives are worse than our own, but that doesn't mean I want to trade my own child's upper mobility through an education I pay for in order to subsidize foreign children.

I don't think race or ethnicity should be a factor, but different ethnic groups have strong lobbies and will push hard for their people. I do think a strong case can be made for giving preference to talented people, specialists in fields where we have shortages (like nursing), and people who could enhance the security of this country. As far as refugee status is concerned, many people who are in no danger whatsoever, and who have suffered no discrimination, have exploited the system, based on preferences given to their ethnic groups, while people who are really in danger of being killed or starving to death are turned away because they are classified as "economic refugees."

No= it should be fair all should have a fair Chance. But all should prove them self worthy of it--schools (good grades) work (dependable) Old or disable (still must show a good attitude by response from others-such as church or another good organization) Mothers (must take care and support their children and be held accountable) . Ect. This is a privilege to be here not a debt owed.

I think we should go by the Mexican immigration laws, You have to have your own means of support, you can't by land, you must have at least 40 thousand to even get admitted, you must no Spanish before you enter. Those are just a few of their requirments. No country wants uneducated unskilled people in their country, because that country dose not want to support those people. That's why Mexico is trying to get rid of theirs.

Absolutely! The US can only handle so many immigrants at one time. We have to select those who can best assimilate into our society, and those who bring the best chance of improving America.
I think that is done now, but the immigration system is so old, that it doesn't work very well at all.

Government should treat everybody in our entire human family equally. The difference between people is an illusion. Borders to countries and states are imaginary lines.

There should be no preferences....
But the way the system is, it does favor the wealthy and the educated. Why do you think 'illegals' come here the way they do? Because they are poor and cant afford too...
They don't want to come here illegally....Have to sneak around and living in fear....The laws are silly and bias, and they favor the wealthy...

There should be no preference. If you come here legally, complete all the steps required, then you should become a citizen.
