I have a 2001 vw jetta and have had no problems other then a couple electrical issues, like a bulb going out. From what I understand vw's may have electrical problems but the engines are solid and will last forever.
I have 87,000 mile on my jetta mk4

1.8t with apr 93 oct ecu programing

Stephanie What kind of VW are you thinking about?
they all can have problems at any time, many cars have recalls within months of being built, some even before they have ever been sold.
It is like that with any car made by anyone.

My 2000 VW Golf 5-speed has almost 160,000 miles on it. And I haven't had any major problems. Just regular wear-and-tear items, like brake pads and tires and oil changes.

Not sure about miles but KM 130 000 for japenese cars 140 000+
for german and 110 000 - for american

15-20k miles. brakes, air filter, minor interior problems, lights and such. nothing really major. brakes defintely though.
