Bless your heart! You know, we all struggle with various sins in our lives, but many have "life-dominating" sins that they tend to struggle with over and over.
One thing that you must remember is that Jesus Christ has saved you from the power of sin. That does not mean that you won't be tempted in it, but that you don't have to participate in it any longer.
If the sin is alcohol, then you need to stay away from those who drink, places that it is served, etc.
Paul tells us, "Flee from youthful passions. Instead, pursue righteousness, faithfulness, love, and peace together with those who call on the Lord with a pure heart." (II Timothy 2:22)
And the writer to the Hebrews says, "Therefore, having so vast a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, and throwing off everything that hinders us and especially the sin that so easily entangles us, let us keep running with endurance the race set before us, looking off to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of the faith, who, in view of the joy set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." (Hebrews 12:1-2)
I know of an excellent resource called "Self-confrontation," that if you were to use it, would help you to have victory over these sins. The link is in the sources section. I pray that you will be delivered, and have victory over your flesh! In His mighty name!
When you are actively pursuing righteousness, you won't have time for the sin that you deal with.

Just like any parent who's child is having difficulties. We hate seeing the mistake, but we still Love the child. God doesn't want to see anyone have a hard time, but you have to personally over come your faults to feel like you are overcoming sin.
Also, if you recommit the sin, guilt will stay. If you have stopped the sin, go through the process of remission. Confession to a bishop or higher authority, staying away from the sin, praying for forgiveness, and serving those who the sin might be against.

I think the Lord has a great deal of compassion for you, and I think I know how you feel.
You've just got to keep on working at it - try and reduce the opportunities you have to do this wrong that's troubling you. And you might consider seeking confidential pastoral care at your church, if they offer such a thing.
To quote a lovely song by Michael W Smith...
You run the race
Thinking you've almost won
Then you may find
You've only begun
You're on the road
Thinking you're far from here
And suddenly find
You're very near
No, you are not alone
You will be free indeed
The journey begins and ends
With me
One million miles
It starts with a step or two
What are you waiting for?
I'm waiting for you

First of all, God is FOR you not against you. Secondly, what you are describing is known as a "besetting" sin. God doesn't want you to pray to Him for forgiveness since He has already given you that when Jesus died to pay for all of your sins. He wants to make you an overcomer by the power of his Holy Spirit. Then you'll have a testimony to help others who deal with sin in this area.
Some things that might help you are trying to see this behavior through God's eyes. My Pastor was preaching on this subject today on the radio and he talked about how God will deliver you from your enemies but not from your friends. So as long as you don't see this behavior as a harmful enemy you won't find deliverance.

The series is called Dead Man Walking because he is preaching about being dead to sin in our lives.

Is it possible that it's not the sin you're worried about, but the guilt that you feel from the sin itself? Guilt is a very powerful thing--it torments our consciences until the proper amount of atonement is done! By the way, we in Yahoo Answer Land DON'T need to know the sin, it's just not necessary! I would just like it if you could somehow, someway feel better about it! Sometimes confession is good for the soul--I'm not religious, but you could tell someone that you trust! I hope that, whatever happens, you are able to work it out! All the best to you!

I have that problem, I suppose I'm willing to admit here, it's masturbation. At the moment I have stopped but it's like I just can't stop long enough to break free. I hate it, I pray, ask, and complain to God to get rid of it.
I realize it's the one weakness that Satan flaunts over me and we must suffer from trials and tribulations, but I hate it, hopefully the last time, will be the last time.
It's called repentance, to turn around or away from a sin. It sure ain't easy and I don't know how some people deal with really bad sins, like physical abuse to others.

Look at some of the examples in the Bible.
God called David a man after his own heart, yet he was a murderer, and a fornicater!
But David loved God and was sorry for his sins!
He worshiped God without reserve!
Paul also was a murderer, and of God's elect, no less!
But, he was forgiven and went on to become a great Apostle!
You must continue to pray and seek deliverence and forgiveness. God is merciful and loves his children.
Have you received the power since you believed?

We all have demons to battle on a constant basis. God expects us to do the best we can do to avoid committing sin, but knows that we are human and sin is in our nature. If you have troubles beyond what you can handle, ask for help. Talk to someone you trust, like your best friend, pastor, or a parent. Don't give up! You can overcome this! God will help you.

Actsd 2:38 and Beekay both gave good answers. We all have what is known as a besetting sin. There is one other thing I have learned. If you have such a sin, you may want to pray to God, "Lord, I have this sin I keep battling. In my heart, I really don't want to stop doing it, so You will have to help me want to stop." I think you already feel that way, but keep praying, remove yourself from tempting situations, and keep telling God you are sorry, and you want to change, but He has to help you want to change and He has to help you to change. I think Paul told us at least in a veiled way that he had a troubling situation that may have been of his own making (remember the thorn in the flesh?) and God didn't take it away from him, but gave him the strength to endure it. A besetting sin helps keep us humble. I pray for God's blessings in your struggle.

Well, first you need to recognize when you are being tempted into this sin. When you are tempted to sin, pray for God to help you not to sin. When Jesus taught us to pray he said, "Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one."
Pray that temptation will not come, first of all, but if you are tempted, pray that God will help you to make the right choice. If you make the right choice when you are tempted, you will not need to go asking for God's forgiveness. You can thank him for helping you make the right decision instead. That's a much better feeling.
And always remember that even if you don't make the right decision, God will always forgive you and accept you with open arms.
