Well, it most certainly would be unethical, and in some cases, illegal. (If people were to send money to them for treatment. Theft by fraud.)
Regardless, it is a television show, and since I hate most of what Hollyweird puts out, I don't watch much TV.

Unethical yes but not only do people get attention, but they get money from people who feel sorry for them. You hear stories like this all the time on the news and then people send money to make life easier for them or to give the child something that they had always dreamed of like a trip to Disney World.
That is bad enough but there are people who induce sickness on their child so that they get attention themselves. It's called Munchhausen synddrome.
I didn't hear the one about the lady saying her son had to have chemo and that was the reason for shaving his head but was she serious or was she mocking Desperate Housewives? I've never watched the show either so I wouldn't really know.

Would you shut up already!!!!!!!! >:(
I know it's a free country, but how many times do we need to tell you that you're being a total @$$ hole! Grow up and quit picking on a poor woman with a sick son. Go pick your nose instead or something. Anything you do right now would be less disgusting than you are being right now. I hope natural selection takes you out of the gene pool for not fulfilling your potential as a compassionate human being. I hope you're the one that finds God. You're sick.
You're mentioning this because a poor woman asked people to pray for her sick son and you're using Desperate Housewives as a cover up.
What does your question have to do with Religion and Spirituality anyway?

This is called Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy. You can read more on the topic here: http://sids-network.org/experts/msp.htm .
Besides, this psychological disorder has been portrayed by other programs DOZENS of times before. Of course, television tends to sensationalize the disease, so take it with a grain of salt & research the rest before passing judgment.
(Remember the verse that goes "Judge not lest ye be judged"? Let's leave the judging up to God, k? Just a friendly reminder from one Christian to another.)

That's unethical. However, if he's just got a cold or something of that nature it's ok. Can't milk the serious stuff, though.

People commonly use tragedies, real or imagined, to get attention and to beg for money.
There is some guy who just posted a "please pray for me" "question" that was a veiled attempt to beg for money.
It may be unethical but it is very common. And Christians are their primary targets due to their gullibility.

If it was a TV show you have to EXPECT it to be unethical. In real life there would be heck to pay for something like that.
