There are many people who believe that the Holy Bible was composed by God and written down by men. The unfortunate part is that there is no proof of this, therefore the idea that the bible is The Word of God is really based on the hope that the people who wrote it down weren't actually crazy men who claimed to be talking to God. Be honest, if some guy came up to you and told you to do what he said because God told him that you should, would you? There are people out there who are willing to believe that a book full of contradictions and prejudice was actually composed by God. Kind of scary, Huh? Now if someone can actually produce a photograph of God whispering in the ears of these "prophets" and can show valid I.D. that proves it is actually God, then there might be a chance of me believing that the Bible is The Word of God. Until then, it will continue to reside on the book shelf with all my other favorite works of historical fiction.

haven't you noticed how these books reflect the cultures that introduce them? if your a good arab do you believe, given the animosity that's always been between them, that the one savior is a jew? why would a god who created all man tell solomon not to marry from another culture? what's the threat to him? hell, even jesus himself tells the apostles " go not unto the way of the gentiles I am only come to the lost sheep of the house of isreal." matthew 10:7.( does this mean Jesus and therefore God only cared about you if you were jewish?) when you get into religous extremety you tend to get influenced by your own beliefs and prejudices: read the old testament passages on homosexuality ( yet God doesn't seem to have a problems with cousins getting married ( ie abraham and sarah first cousin parents of john the baptist). as far as being sacred that's personal. sacred is up to you.

well, as has been talked about by many people, the Bible is a book that can make people inspired. It is not a book that one can pay little attention to.

It is wisdom that the Bible conveys while other textbooks just teach you knowledge.

PROPHECY is one very important attribute..it took 1600 years w/ 40 authors and is 72 books long..yet if flows SMOOTHLY w/ ONE theme of SALVATION through the messiah (JESUS)..it is supported by archaelogy w/ the cities, names, etc. in the Bible...it is special and it is complete and true..it has a beginning and an END>>peace.

Sacred because it is conventionally accepted as sacred. If we all agree that my pet rock is sacred, it would be sacred.
