You can bathe him but most cats hate bathing.

Do cut his claws back before you try this. Keep the bath time very short and use warm (not cold) water. Use only a shampoo for "cats" not dogs or something else.

Honestly though, cats clean themselves constantly and don't need a bath.

No way! Cats hate the water, and your cat will hate you if you try to throw him in the tub. The only way you can really bathe a cat is if you do it from the time they are very young so they stay used to it, but since your cat is an adult you're not going to be able to anymore.

Of course, but make sure your health insurance is paid up. I have bathed mine several times, and the last time I tried this in the kitchen sink I ended up with a cat literally hanging from the valance curtains after he sprang out of the water like a missile being launched.

It is, indeed, possible to bathe a 3 yr old cat who's not already accustomed to being soaked. You will need the following items to do the job
1 cat
1 bottle of non-allergenic shampoo or body wash
wash tub
prescription veterinary tranquilizers
leather falconry gloves
Gulf war body armor
Assorted bandages
about a gallon of bactine (or other wound disinfectant)

It is possible, I have bathed my cats plenty of times. Vets recommend bathing your cat only if he or she gets something in their fur that they can not clean out on their own. Most cats definitely do not like baths and you may need someone else to hold the cat while you wash it.

Depends on the cat and his temperament. At the animal hospital where I worked we had a grooming area downstairs and it was so funny to watch the cats that LOVED being bathed and groomed. Some of them would just go limp and seemed to be in kitty happy land :) Others though... yeah we had to sedate them.... You might wear gloves the first time ;o)

I don't bathe my cats too often, but only when they are REALLY dirty (one of them is white, and sometimes he is grey because of the dirt!). I always use the aid of other person, because they don't like baths, and they can be very strong. While my mom holds the cat by its neck (like mom cats do), while its in the sink (with warm water), I bathe it with special shampoo. Do it very quickly!. When it's over we dry it very well with a towel, and afterwars we use the hair drier (I don't know if that's the correct word for it).

my cat Bugly is 8 years old she has had a weekly shampoo since she was a very small kitten when i found her she had been drenched in gasoline and had to be bathed also i am allergic and she sleeps with me as long as she is shampooed once a week i don't sneeze,my eyes don't water and get red and she smells really nice when she puts her head on my pillow every night until she got used to it i held her front paws firmly but gently between my fingers on one hand while lathering her and rinsing her with veggie sprayer even after 8 years she still cries like i am killing her while getting her bath but once i wrap her in her binkie and sit down in the rocking chair to dry her she goes to sleep before i even start to brush her this also cuts WAY down on her shedding and that is a very good thing since she stays in my lap most of the time and sleeps with me

Cats typically don't like getting a real bath. You can try though. Cats bathe themselves by licking themselves.

yes try to run the water before bringing cat in the noise is scarey to them i would also have a large cup handy to pour water over cat to rinse water and make sure just in case the cat gets out of tub the door is closed
