No one really knows if a higher power exists. Some people choose to believe (faith) for any number of reasons. One of those reasons if fear.

Many organized religions rely on this basal emotion to empower and spread their faith. For example, Christianity has been used across Europe for hundreds of years as a tool to control the masses.

Non-believers were first told they would go to "Hell" if they denied Christ and whatever Church happened to be preaching "his word". If that didn't convince them, many Christian leaders used more sinister means of persuasion (they might burn you alive, boil you alive, or "roast" your feet-ouch! to name a few popular methods).

Once the masses believed they were destined for hell, both on earth and the "after life", if they refused to accept whatever dogma was being served, they became the malleable believers the Church wanted. To much less of an extreme, the same principles behind organized religion still hold true.

Because God never wanted Religion- not in the way we have it, anyway. What we do wrong is use God as an excuse, build up social standards around church and doctrines- instead of focusing on love, which is all God really wanted to teach. Organized religion (which is the cause for wars in the name of God, not God himself, or even the beliefe in God) is a perversion of a true faith and love in and for God. If everyone could learn to accept each others beliefs, no matter what they are, this world would be better off. As a person who believes in God and Jesus Christ, I truly believe that you're 'religion' will have no bearing on your entry to paradise. It will be according to how you lived your life. If you use God as an excuse for war, or as an excuse to exclude and degregate people, or as a tool to make yourself feel superior, then that will do you no more good than if you were an athiest. As much as religious people need to accept those that aren't, those that aren't have to realize that it's not the belief in God, (or God himself) or faith that causes wars, or causes evil asscoiated with religion- it's people.

Ok what i'm going to tell you now you might struggle to believe but whether you do or not its still the truth.
God is real. He's an amazing God. In the Beginning God created mankind and walked talked and showed that he loved them. But mankind turned away from God. They disobeyed him and thus was the start of sin. When they did this they where actually saying. 'God get stuffed we don't need you. We can manage on our own.' So this same Loving God took a stand back and watched as the world try to get along without him. Mankind soon realised that they do need God so they start totry and please him one way or another. They chose to worship other gods, gods that they made up. Stone, wood, gold whatever they could think of they even tried to worship the Almighty God who made them in the beginning. But it could never be the same because of sin. Mankind became selfish and pride took over. They had too fight and argue to get their point across, and they had to kill in the name of their god. God the creator didn't and still doesn't agree with these arguements and that they use religion as the excuse for them. But he allows because of mans ignorance.
They have religion so they hope one day that they may be right, that one day they will go to the afterlife. They hope that by fighting God will appease them. But sadly ythey refuse to see they only do this out of selfish pride and arrogance.
Its almost like an audition, mankind thinks that they can perform for God and the best will get the part.
Some who are atheists refuse to believe because they can't be bothered with any of it. Lets be honest who can blame them? But even they are wrong. Because they refuse to accept that God is real. This too is selfish.
Sin is the cause of these wars, hatred, pride, greed. WE blame God yet what has he done wrong? We say 'if he's real why doesn't he stop the evil in the world?' But its our fault not God's because we told him to 'Get Stuffed' we chose sin, we said we know best.
Our pride and ignorace is sin and sin will be punished. You see every man woman and child is a sinner. Romans 3:23 say's 'All have sined and come short of the glory of God.' and Romans 6:23 say's 'The wages of sin is death.' This is eternal seperation from God. In other words hell. mankind thinks he knows what he's doing. He has no idea what the heck he is doing. He doesn't know that his reward is eternal punishment. And there is nothing he can do to stop it. You try and stop sinning its impossible. Sin will kill every one of us in the end regardless of religion or no faith in any God. Sin will send us to hell.
Its like aids it kills eventually and mankind can't create a cure for it.
But mankind can't create the cure, but that doesn't mean there isn't one. There is one cure for man's selfishness, pride, greed for sin itself. Its not religion but something so amazing so fantastic. The question is do you want to know what it is? I can share with you but you have to contact me if you really want to know the truth,
Lets be honest the world is a crap place with or without religion you might as well give something a try.

God- may or may not exist, I do not know. I personally believe if there ever was a God, he was simply a more powerful being than us, who lost interest in this world when we began to develope our own technology. The only logical explanation for why he would stop communicating with us about the time we moved out of the bronze age, if he ever existed.

It is more logical to assume that God did not exist, and does not. And that the Christian "God", along with Zeus, Ra, and the Native Americans' Great Spirit were created by man to explain away natural phenomena that would be freightening to primitive people.

Somewhere along the way, powerful men took simple nomadic beliefs in magical beings and warped them into religion- applying their own orders, demands, and desires to their dogmas as "the word of God", when it is actually the word of the King, the Chieftain, or the Shaman.

And these word of God allow men to control society by scaring the heck out of people who do not want to go to Hell after their death...

What loving, benevolent God would create a Hell, let alone send his "children" to it- talk about Child Abuse !

So, the things that religion teaches us about God furtherly compounds to make his existance seem unlikely, via inconcistency.

So, why do we still cling to those beliefs ? Because they have been around for as long as civilization itself... and we, as a race of beings, are simply afraid to let them go.

What if there is a God ? we ask ourselves... if we stop believing in him, even though he hasn't spoken to us, or seperated any seas, or flodded the earth, or talked out of any burning bushes in a long, long time... what if he is still up there... and we stop believing... and he gets mad ?

That is why we still have religion.

God wants us to be able to choose. he doesnt want to make the world perfect.. cuz then the perfect world would be like heaven. Adam and Eve for example.. he told them they could have anything in the garden of eden but one thing.. that thing being fruit from one tree.. they made their own decision and ate it anyway. If God made our decisions... it wouldnt be us. it would be someone controling us. God wants to see that if even through hardship.. such as a losing a family member, losing your job, or through war that you'll still trust in him.

because belief in one God makes certain groups believe that they are the chosen people. this causes wars and doesn't really help with the advancement of peace.

imo, God is the personification of the greatest possible good whilst the Devil is the personification of the greatest possible evil.

Indeed, he could overpower us but then we wouldn't have free will. God made us in his image and likeness and with the ability to choose the right thing to do. Unfortunately, he allows us not only to be tempted by evil but to succumb to it. It saddens him that some do wrong, especially in his name, but he allows us to do what we choose even though it makes him sad and sometimes angry.

That crap has been spewed by every anti-religious freak for centuries. It's a tired old argument, and certainly not in any way original thinking on your part.

Why don't you try to think of something ORIGINAL to shout about.

OOPS! That's right! That would require you to think!
