Research has shown that aging in humans is caused by the termination of the polymer chains on every cell. From the point of conception, every cell has a polymer chain, and every time that cell divides the polymer chain divides with it. When the polymer chain cannot be divided any further, the cell is unable to regenerate. This is what causes aging as this is going on in millions of cells in the body. However, not too long ago a group of scientists believed that they had isloated an enzyme called polymerase that could potentially halt or reverse the breakdown of the polymer chain. This would stop aging, though not necessarily reverse it.

Carp don't age. It has something to do with they don't stop growing, but we're not sure how it works or if it can be applied to humans. Maybe DNA could be transplanted one day, but right now we don't even know how to work with our own DNA, so inter species stuff is FAAAAAAR down the road if it ever happens at all.

It can't be reversed because aging is the result of DNA breaking down each time it is replicated.
