Christian fundamentalists crack me up with their bible apologetics. I've never heard an explanation for this one, so just asking.

The "continents" of today did not exist the same as in the Days of Noah.
By the way, tigers and even elephants have been seen swimming seas from island to island. Many other species as well.

Interesting question. Of course, I guess if you're truly a fundamentalist, it's not that hard to come up with SOME answer, since we believe that God can do miracles to achieve His will, and it wouldn't be hard to say that He just miraculously brought two of each over to Noah. Personally, I dunno if that's what I'd say happened, but it's probably not inconsistent with fundamental Christian beliefs.

Just thinking out loud here: I think the theory was that PEOPLE hadn't yet populated the whole planet yet...still slowly moving out from the center (somewhere in modern Iraq) where the Garden of Eden was supposed to have been. If that's true, then perhaps the animals might not have either. Dunno...never really thought about that. But, I'm confident that a God powerful enough to create all the humans and animals on the planet could somehow figure out how to get a handful of critters back to a little ark in the Middle East if He really wanted to. :)

In the time of Noah, no one really knows for sure how all the animals from other continents reached him...Were there other continents, or was it just one big land mass surrounded by water? If you look at the passage of scripture below, Noah was already IN the Ark when the animals came in. I believe God sent the animals to Noah and Noah had to make sure he took exactly the animals God had commanded him to take.
Genesis 7:7-10 And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons' wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood. Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth, There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah. And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.
Very good question btw...made me do a little research. Thank you!

You have to reassess your definition of "fundamentalist". The Hebrew phrase that is translated in English as "the whole world" can also be translated (with equal accuracy) as "the whole land" or "the whole region".
Reading the story literally, in the original language in which it was written, is my concept of "fundamentalist". Doing so, I can certainly accept that there was a massive flood on the Mesopotamian plain that affected the whole area that mankind inhabited at that time. Particularly since there is supporting archaeological evidence and since that event is recorded in the traditions of every civilization that existed in Mesopotamia since Shumer. (yes, the proper spelling is Shumer, not Sumer).

You believe there was once one continent, right? Well, there was one continent before the flood. All this water that had been up in the atmosphere, before there was such thing as rain, dumped on the earth and filled up huge valleys and made separate continents.

The beginning of Genesis actually backs up this theory.

Genesis 1:9 And God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to ONE PLACE, and let dry ground appear." And it was so. 10 God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And God saw that it was good.

If all the water was gathered into one place, then obviously there was only one continent before the flood. Thus Pangea (sp?). Why does everyone think that Science and the Bible don't mix?

If you take a look at the geneologies it mentions how in the time of Peleg (several generations after Noah and the ark & Babel) the land divided. If this is so, then all of our modern continents would have to have been together at one time in order to then divide.

That also is helpful in explaining how native peoples got to their different lands. They sure didnt' all get up and swim everywhere after the Tower of Babel!

God could flood the world, he could have caused the animals to appear for him.

There is of course evidense of a flood layer over a good part of what was the known world of Noahs day. So the proof of a very large regional flood that would have covered the entire known world of Noah is obvious.

Well, one night, after Noah had drunk himself into a stupor, he sent out a telegram to all animals. The telegram read: You're invited to a free keg party hosted by Noah on his Arc. Bring only one of each of you because there may not be enough beer.

I don't know about you, but I've seen people practically run over each other to get to a free keg party because they don't happen often!

Because before the flood all of the continents were in one giant land mass

I tend to agree with alot of these other folks. God lead all the animals to the ark and how he did it is his business. The fact that he did this shows his power and also his love. Getting bogged down in the details is where those who want an excuse to reject God will find it. God didn't leave us the how cuz it doesn't matter to us, its the why we should be concerned with and that's an easy answer --- GOD LOVES US and wants us to know him and love him so he can love us. Why would anyone want to reject that? Go figure!
