Most of what you hear is ignorant bigotry.
I live in the Southwest and my wife is of native hispanic and Mexican-American heritage. Her mother, aunts, uncles, cousins all have college degrees, masters degrees and are all professional people. Many served in the US Armed Forces and they are proud to be Hispanic but are American first.
I live in a large city of 700,000 people, right on the Mexican border. It's about 80% hispanic. We have the second lowest crime rate of any US city over 500k. Read that again. El Paso Texas, on the border with Mexico, is one of the safest large cities in the US.
As a race, there is nothing wrong with Mexicans. Most do quite well here in the US. They buy houses, send their kids to school, contribute to the 401k and vote. That is a lot more than some groups already here.
Do I think this illegal migration needs to be stopped? Yes, without a doubt. There are legal ways to get here and doing it illegally is a crime and needs to be punished.
Every country in the world has immigration laws. Every one. You have to go through the process. If you do not, you are a criminal.

I see the illegal immigration situation - and i look back over 220 years and remember our ancenstors coming to america with a dream...hoping for a greater place. They found it, but are kinda late, because we limit our borders. It must be difficult to get here legally, and if i were stuck in mexico with a family, crap for a job, no food, you can bet i would jump that fence and make a run for it. Even if the border patrols would shoot on site, i would plan it out well, and take my chances. Would you like to sit in a filth ridden junkyard with nothing but a few days to live, or would you try to find an opportunity elsewhere? I know hispanics, and i've seen many good people, they are mirrors of us from a different place. I really wish there was a way to open borders, but in todays day and age, it's quite unlikely to run a country of our size, it would be chaos. I wish them the best in their search for a better life.

I support the Mexicans that come legally to this country, they are a benefit to our society, and the ones that join our military just to become citizens and want to be Americans are the kind of people we want and need to be here, I think the Mexicans cooked their own goose, when they marched and carried the Mexican Flag, with signs that said this is our land, that image was burned into the minds of the American people, of every race especially for the ones that came legally and did it the hard way. And then when you have the Mexican government actually helping to get rid of their own people by printing maps and instructions on how to use our social services, and telling them they have every right to be here , which they don't, you are going to have a lot of very up set Americans.

Hispancs are all good and fine, illegal immigrants are NOT fine.
And, since a lot of the 'help' the illegals seem to be getting these days comes FROM the hispanic community(big mystery THERE), SOME criticism needs to flow their way for aiding and abetting.
Illegal immigrants come from all over the world. Unfortunately, the overwhelming portion come from ONE country, Mexico. Mexico should be dealt with fairly and equitably, but firmly also.
Have done with the whole dispute, and get the border fence built.
No more free ride for Mexico, sorry...

Sure I support their right to get the hell out and come back legally.
If they are legal, I have no problems. But in general there are far to many that come here and leech off the system.
I am all in favor of a worker program once the border is secure to allow people into the country who want to work, and do the right thing.

I'm hispanic and I don't want that criminal scum in my neigborhood. They are nothing but alot of rapists, murderers, thieves and drug dealing gang bangers.
And you white people better figure this out already and nip this crap in the bud. There are already whole suburbs of LA that have been taken over by violent mexican gangs. They are being used to funnel drugs into the interior of the US.
Also, I find it highly offensive, your racist insistence on identifying being hispanic as being these people. Hispanics have a long history of patriotism and service to the community. My own grandfather served honorably in world war 2. Many in my family have built businesses and held political office in various major cities in the US. We are some of the finest and most upstanding members of the community.
How dare you define us as that criminal scum coming over the border.

Why do you say everyone seems to think they are the same legal or not?
I like them, generally. We most of us must, or we wouldn't have let it get to the economic impact of 12 to 20 million (large majority of which is Hispanic) before we finally cracked down.
There are just too many, and we need limited immigration that protects our schools for our children and our services for our people.
Panacea - well said.

I have absolutely nothing against their race. In fact, I enjoy their culture, their food and admire their family values.
But to have them invade our country, cost us citizens billions in order to maintain services because of them, is something I do not approve of. Breaking our laws is unacceptable. I just read a question by another user asking about his sentence/fine for breaking a law, he was not just ignored. So there is a double standard with preference given to illegals, and that is completely unacceptable.
