When I ask this question, I am not asking for advice on how to handle my problem....don't tell me to meditate, that is very annoying....don't give me a pasted excerpt from a medical site or the prozac website, we are all on the internet, right?? I am looking for PERSONAL experiences with this medication only.....thank you.

My doctor put me on 10mg Prozac daily for my hormonal migraines. I have no side effects at all....and have been on Prozac for almost a year now. I know 10mg is a low dosage so I may be a bad candidate to ask about side effects and such, but being on Prozac, as well as Topomax and Maxalt has reduced my Migraines from 3-4 a week to 3-4 a month. I HAVE noticed that my PMS symptoms are not as drastic since I have been on Prozac.....I can actually FUNCTION now that week without hurting anyone. : )

Prozac is a common prescription given by doctors to patients exhibiting signs of depression/anxiety.
If you are under 18 and being given the drug, there are high risks to taking this drug, particularly if you are suicidal and subject to self-harm. There is an FDA warning on prescribing these drugs to young people.

I have been on prozac since it first came out & have been on higher doses at times & but remain on just 20 mg. a day now. I will probably take it the rest of my life. I will not be without it. When they made me get a generic I was worried but there hasn't been a problem. Life is better with prozac.
God bless you & all of us on anti-depressants !

I was on prozac for 8 years I did pretty good on it until a year ago when it just stopped working and I started having a side effect from it. The side effect was rage and anger. I hadt o get off from it. However when I was on it and it worked I liked it. Its worth a try it really helped me in those 8 years. Hugs!

I was on Prozac for about a year and then it just sort of quit working for me. My psychiatrist changed my medication to Effexor, it's been very good. I also take Xanax and Lithium.
I wasn't taking Lithium when on Prozac.
I had no side effects for the time I was on it and it did certainly help me not want to kill myself anymore.

i took prozac for about 8 years also. with me it stoped working too. it was wonderful while it worked, but it just stoped. now i'm taking lexapro, and to me the prozac was better. i suffer from depression and anxiety also. i wish it still worked for me. the lexapro works sorta, but not as well as the prozac. good luck to you. hopefully it will help you like it did me for those years! also i wanna say that there is nothing wrong IMO with taking medication for these disorders. i'd rather live my life on meds, then be miserable without them.

Seems odd that a doc would prescribe something which does nothing to correct the problem.. only allows you to be a bit more tolerable of the situation. The side effects are often worse than the condition. Would suggest you begin looking for an answer, for what is causing your problem. Then get appropriate treatment. Is something you will have to change, in your mental level. Not the intellectual level.

I took it for a year and suffered from suicidal tendencies. It also made me so sleepy that all I wanted to do was take a nap and could do so very easily. After a year or so, I changed doctors and was put on a different med that had fewer side effects and things improved greatly.

Try and help yourself instead of becoming dependent on drugs, they kind of make you into a zombie, vegetable like. Try meditation and find out where the anxiety is stemming from and what are its solution, sometimes, time is the best healer.
