Yet the church I left had eaxctly 2 black people, mebbe 2 doz asians, a few latino bros.out of 300/400 congregation.
My neighhood has a far better ratio than that by farrrr.

I don't understand it...there are "Churches" and then there's "Historically Black Churches"...just like there's "Colleges" and "Historically Black Colleges."

It sound pretty silly...and probably illegal...if you put the shoe on the other foot.

I used to live in Sacramento...but my church wasn't very segregated. I think whites and blacks were the majority but there were also many hispanics and asians. I am not sure about other races.
Funny thing though...I went to pick up my niece at her sunday school last week and her church all all black. I didn't see one white, asian, native american, purple, blue or pink person at all!
But maybe it's just because of the neighborhood. I live in Seattle now by the way.

I agree with the previous post, different ethnicity's have different styles of worship. African Americans adopted Christianity from their oppressors and integrated it with the movements and rhythms of African worship. This is why we see the drastic difference between majority white and majority black churches. The denominations also influence the type of worship. It is very complex, a good research paper if anyone is interested. My church is very diverse, non-denominational, and contemporary, although it feel very Baptist influenced, probably because the pastor is from the south.

Part of the answer is that people like to be with their own kind. I live in a town of about 15 thou and the independant church I go to has about 100 members. We have three african american families in the church. All people who walk into our church are given the love of Christ by all our members. It is our job to love them and to see that their walk with the Lord is enhanced - not hampered. Many main line churches don't have this philosophy

There are nice people in all race groups,as I've met lots. But most people prefer to be near their own, like animals tend to hang out in tribal packs,so do people.Similar people tend to have much in common. There may be a scientific reason for it,like birds of a feather flock together.Because humans have a choice, people think they are chosing to avoid others, but maybe they haven't much pleasure from others- at least not the racial kind they need.

My church is striving to be an extremely diverse church. The more diversity the better. It is however predominantly white only because in our area we are predominantly white. We have black, Puerto Rican, Mexican & white people. To me it doesn't matter. What does matter is if you are saved or not.

I think it's about a preference of worship. I got to an majority black church, but there a little bit of everyone there. My moms white and she thinks its loud and I think her church is boring. the beliefs are the same, but the style is different.

That's weird where I live the churches don't care what you look like, as long as you respect the church and it's rules
