It is 'actual load' divided by the 'maximum demand', multiplied by 100, gives Load factor %.

Oh - i'm sorry I was just about to give you an answer in relation to aviation and load factor.

But i'll give it to you anyways. Load factor is related to the amount of force on an airfoil - for example, in a 45 degree turn load factor is 2, doubling the weight of the aircraft.
