We are leaving in the Am. 7:05 to be exact and will have a lay over in Arizona. This will be her first airplane flight! I am a litttle nervous!

I'm going to joke and say sleeping pills, but in reality, that would be a TERRIBLE thing to do. Knocking children out with drugs can be harmful to their system. Besides, I personally think it is treating them more like animals than people.

Portable DVD players are a lifesaver. Bring along tons of Disney or Barney or whatever and she can watch/listen with her own set of headphones.

Make sure you have snacks and drinks. If she's old enough to chew things for more than 5 seconds, something chewy might help her equalize pressure in her ears during takeoff and landing. (I think that has to be one of the hardest parts on a little one - they just can't understand why their ears hurt.)

I've see play-doh work well, but make sure you have containers for it. Oh, and a favorite stuffed animal and/or blankie might induce her to sleep a bit.

There weren't portable DVDs when my daughter was flying with me from the Midwest to Europe years ago. Excellent idea there. If you haven't bought it for her, give it as a surprise, and make sure it is charged. Her favorite movie of course and a very comfortable set of ear phones. Umm.. your daughter will wear those, right?

Also, check to see how long the charge will hold on the DVD player. You won't be able to recharge in flight or, probably, at the airport.

We made it a thing to purchase a new surprise toy on each leg of the trip. So my daughter received the entire Aladdin set on a trip to Florida, a different Disney toy on a trip to Europe, and yet another on yet another trip to Texas. They were all interchangeable, Aladdin with Beauty and the Beast... She had a blast and kept herself occupied.

The big thing in my opinion, beyond their favorite toys, is seating position on the plane. Sit near one of the galleys. This way you can get up and walk a bit without disturbing others when she is feeling the need to move around. Additionally try and schedule your flight strategically so that she is sleep while you are in transit.

As a favour to yourself, your little one and all the other passengers on the flight, see your doctor about getting something to make her sleep. That is a terribly long flight and whatever you take will eventually bore her and that will lead to tears and screams.

This depends on the two-year old, but I've found crayons to be a life-saver. Also, snacks, books, something she's used to sleeping with, or her favorite toy might be a good idea.
