The difference is Atheism deals with ones beliefs and Agnosticism deals with ones knowledge.
Atheists do not "believe" in any god(s), deity's of any kind.
Agnostics do not "know" if there are any god(s), deity's of any kind.
You should look into a guy name Huxley. He originally came up with and defined the term agnostic.

Agnosticism means believing that the existence of God or gods is unknowable by the mind of man and/or woman. That's the definition. Most Atheists are essentially Agnostics who believe there is no evidence for the existence of God and, lacking evidence, it must be assumed there is no God. (And IMO this makes perfect sense since it is impossible to prove a negative, but very possible to prove a positive, so if there is a God, there should be evidence out there.) OTOH there are many Christians who are also technically Agnostics because they believe it must all be taken on faith, which is not evidence, no matter what some would like to believe. And there is NOTHING wishy washy about Agnosticism. It is a simple, very firm belief that the evidence is not out there.

One who is skeptical about the existence of God but does not profess true atheism.
One who is doubtful or noncommittal about something.
adj.
Relating to or being an agnostic.
Doubtful or noncommittal: “Though I am agnostic on what terms to use, I have no doubt that human infants come with an enormous ‘acquisitiveness’ for discovering patterns” (William H. Calvin).
a·the·ist ( P ) Pronunciation Key (th-st)
n.
One who disbelieves or denies the existence of God or gods
So, basically, the atheist doesn't believ and the agnostic isn't sure!

This is an easy one. I'm an agnostic and what that means is I don't rule out the possibility of God but I won't believe in him because there is not enough evidence to support such a belief. I recommend "Why I Am Not A Christian" by Bertrand Russell for a more detailed explanation.

Agnostic is someone who doesn't know if God exists or not. There are two types of agnostics: hard and soft. Hard agnostics say it is impossible to know if there is a God or not but a soft agnostic says there may be a God but I don't know if he or she exists.

* One who believes that it is impossible to know whether there is a God.

* One who is doubtful or noncommittal about something.
The difference between an atheist and an agnostic is that an atheist does not believe in God/god at all and doesn't not believe that god/God can possibly exist. An agnostic isn't sure about the existance of God/god, but is open to the possibility that god/God exists.

agnostic means they aren't sure whether there is or isn't a god. They are suspending judgement until they get more information.
