autism is quite prevalent in the general population...

the important thing to remind yourself is this:
U ♥ Her!

does being diagnosed w/ mild autism change your feelings or calls into question the viability of a relationship? ...of starting a family?
if it does, understand the feelings and questions you have are absolutely normal!
i applaud you for having the courage to ask!
not doing so would be an act of negligence and denial, especially if you are not knowledgeable about autism.

a relationship w/ someone w/ autism brings unique challenges and calls alot into question! how can it not!?!

You owe it to yourself to clearly identify all underlying concerns and get answers/ facts until you are satisfied that you know what you are getting into. again, doing so doesn't make you a "bad" person or is evidence that your love isn't "true".

are you afraid autism can be passed down to your children?
do you want children?
fact: the causes of autism is unknown.

good luck to you both!

The new diagnosis doesn't change who your girlfriend is. She is the same person she was before you had a medical term to call her by.

If their is a difference in how you think of her it might be that before the diagnoses you saw some of how she acts as "just how she is" but now now you are seeing the same things as a "problem" or a "disease." It's normal to worry a little when told someone you love has a medical condition, but it doesn't change who she is.

Give yourself time to get over the shock of the diagnosis, and then follow your heart.

No you shouldn't. The reason I say this is because you are questioning whether or not you should marry her based on a mental illness that she didn't ask one of her parents to pass onto her. You don't really love her if you have to ask this question.

If you love her then marry her. I would marry anyone even with autism that I loved.

If you truly love someone it sould not matter. If you are at all concerned about the future, it is not right for you yet.
