It seems that a lot of people on Yahoo Answers think it's cool to misspell words. I don't know why, but it would certainly defeat their purpose to use a spell checker.

Although it is a spell checker, it is somewhat limited, I do use it, but I find it frustrating when it flags something I don't remember typing in and I can't see it.

So I say done, find that it took a word that maybe a technical term or name and then mutilated it into something it thought was right.

But I think the main reason is laziness. If people who chronically spelled words wrong were bounced or locked out maybe they would use it. Or maybe, submit should start spell check automatically! Now there is a thought!

Yahoo provides it for people who can't spell so they don't look stupid. The ones who don't use it think they don't need it because they think they know how to spell, but in reality they don't....or maybe they do use the spell checker but don't know which word to pick, because they don't know how to spell the word in the first place and there is too many options and maybe they pick the wrong one......LOL!!!!!

People like to type quickly to answer a question. I am a teacher and am CONSTANTLY reminding students of the spell checker. I think also that people forget it is there - I did!

The way most of these people spell, it would not be able to help them anyway, my little green friend. You have to be close for the spell checker to correct you.

Perhaps because you have to actually select it, unlike word-processing programmes which, unless you turn the option off, run their spell/grammar checker(s) automatically, checking errors "on the fly".

Probably because people are in a hurry, it's electronic, so it's supposed to be fast or instant. The two seconds it takes to run the spell check is just too much time.

Some people are lazy?
The site is all about instant gratification?
Not enough of us call people on their inconsiderate mistakes, and when we do, people complain?
