I think it is wrong because it violates seperation of church and state. Plus, it makes those who don't practice a religion or who practice a religion other than the majority very uncomfortable. As was the case when I was growing up. I am not opposed to people praying on their own time, that is fine. But to have a school led prayer is a horrible idea. Those that argue that there are school shootings because of a lack of prayer are wrong, in essence because school shootings cannot be attributed to a lack of religion. In fact, they are usually attributed to a people feeling excluded from the group, which is what would happen if you call out the fact that some students believe in god and some don't. Those that don't believe in god will be pushed out further than they already are, which may just lead to more shootings.... Also, there are more shootings now than before because gun laws are more laxed and children have more acces to guns.

If the Christians want the Lord's Prayer back in schools, then other religious prayers will have to be allowed too.

I don't think about it, till I see questions like this. I would like to know, though, how anyone is being stopped from bowing their head and praying when they want to?

Prayer was not banned. What was taken out was LEAD prayer. As I asked in another post, would it be alright if a Pagan such as myself came to the public schools and lead a ritual of cleansing for all the children? Just as much as you do not want a Pagan or anyone of another religion coming in and leading your child in their religious activities... I do not want my child being lead in any kind of religious activity. That sort of thing should be taught at home...... if the kid acts differently as school, then they aren't learning how to act right from home. Lead by example.

When there was prayer in schools there were hardly any shootings. Now see how many we have. Praying didn't hurt anyone. But taking prayer out did.

Banning Prayer from school is the reason why there is so many problems in our society. The bible teaches people love and understanding. If the bible was taught in schools there wouldn't be as many school shootings. Until we allow religion back into schools bad thing are bound to happen.

As long as it isn't officially sanctioned in any way, then it's just the free exercise of the religious rights of students and I have no problem with that. A lot of schools have a 1 or 2 minute "moment of silence", and we all know that's really an attempt to skirt the Constitution. If I were on the jury, I wouldn't let that one stand.

Just ask people who were in school 30 yrs. ago how many killings they knew of. Prayer is essential in all places.

Kids can pray about any time they want in school. What you cannot do is force children to follow any sort of belief system in a public school, funded by all taxpayers' money. That's unconstitutional and I'm glad it has been stopped.

If Catholicism and Christianity want to align themselves with the teachings of Master Jesus the Christ, and no more intolerance, judgment or human-sacrifice nonsense, then we wouldn't feel so violated by it.

But that hasn't happened in over 2000 years. I don't look for it now and I recommend staying as far away from the dogma of religion as humanly possible.

Master Jesus said to put nothing between you and your Creator.

Prayer belongs in the home and in places of worship , it has no place in education. School is for teaching, church is for preaching!
