Not much of anything, actually - even acquaintences know a little something. Think of the person who's name you see at the checkout line or behind the counter at Burger King.

I once heard a joke - if your name is on the building, you are upper class. If your name is on your desk, you are middle class. If your name is on your shirt, you're nobody.

I prefer to call them day friends. People you see during the day, and might talk to but don't spend time togather. This opposed to your night friends whom you go out with.
