It is...a form of one-upmanship when it is used to beat someone else down for the things they consider wrong. It is the fuel to the fire of humans-killing-humans because "we" are right, while "they" are wrong, it's the same power struggles we see across the board with we humans. Only there is something bigger at stake, here, let's not forget, "I'm going to heaven, I'll see you in Hell my friend!"
