My wife and I are expecting a child soon (that's the good news) and we need to get a vehicle with more than two doors! Due to a job loss and the following reduction in income our credit is seriously banged up (that's the bad news) Fortunately, we are back on our feet again but the past credit issues continue to haunt us.

I have done some research, but everything that I have come across seems pretty shady Are there any legitimte auto financing options available for us?

You might consider getting a cheaper used car until you credit score rebounds.
But if you need a new car I would suggest going to Saturn. They offer a sub-vented rate for customers on "new cars" for customers with some credit issues. The have a 9.9 APR for sub prime customers and their vehicles are more affordable and have 5 star safety ratings. (You have kids to worry about) Good luck

Congrats on the upcoming addition!

While I understand a new baby will push the need for a "family" car, is the current one in good riving condition? Is it paid for? These are the things you need to ask yourself, before going further into debt and further hurting your credit.

I know it may be a pain to have to bend all the way back to take the baby's car seat in and out of a 2 door car, but it will be even more of a pain when you go further into debt. Unless the current car is a safety issue, I would try to work on rebuilding credit before going deeper into debt by getting another car.

Given your current financial situation, you will more than likely be given a hellacious interest rate, which in the end you will have paid for 2 cars.

Here's a VERY good, no GREAT website that helps people rebuild their credit legally and easily. It's not a spam site and is legitamate. People helping people. They come HIGHLY recommended.

www.creditboards.com/forums

Good luck and once again, congratulations!

You might check out the automotive financing forum on the site I've listed.

Many people that ask questions in that forum are going through similar situations. There is great advice on how to deal with banks, auto dealers, what lenders deal with people with bad credit and/or low income etc.

There is "no solicitation" !!! on that site. It is for information and advice only, no one will try to get you to do business with them. (people that try do that are bounced off that site faster than you can blink)

Also, check out the credit forum. Do some reading and learn how to deal with those baddies.
