If you lose your social security card you fill out paper work through the mail and recieve it in 6 weeks but if you go to a social security office you can fill out the paperwork for a replacement card and recieve it that day.

If he is US born and not making any changes to the record he just needs to go into the local office and present his unexpired State ID or Drivers License. The replacement card is then mailed and should be received within 10 days. Check the mailing address for accuracy!! There is no such thing as a temporary card given immediately. The only thing that can be given in the office is some type of verification that the SS# belongs to you.

He needs to fill out a form for replacement ASAP. There should be a Social Security Office close by, he can go there in person and sign up for one. It is very important that they know it is missing. After I got married I had to get a new card, and it only took 2 weeks to get it back.

I know someone who got a temporary card immediately good enough for employment. She only needed a drivers license too..they used to require a certified copy of your birth certificate.

About 6 weeks. But why does he need it? If he is being deployed they specificall say not to bring it with you.
