How come it's only when I sneeze? I could get hit by a bus and nobody says, "God bless you." I am much more likely to need God's blessing after a horrific accident than after merely sneezing. In fact I find sneezing rather pleasureable.

thanks. The reason someone says God bless you is because of tradition. Back in the day it was said because any sign of sickness meant you had a very good possibility of dying so they asked God to watch over them with that statemeant. Now everyone uses it no matter what religion you are if any. It is just what is said. No harm ment by it so unless you want to start an unnecessary argument leave it be

Just say thank you.... its only polite - especially if they have no idea that you are an Athiest. Or don't comment at all.... there is that option. No reason to attack someone for saying it, they are just trying to express care or concern. For most people saying "God Bless You" is just a habitual response to an awkward situation....after all - you just spewed about a million germs all over them.

Just say thanks.

Unless you like being confrontational. If you say something like, "Which god", or "I am Atheist", it may spark a lively confrontation. Fun-dies are known for being a little crazy as it is. I mean, come on, they believe in a god that flies around above us on a diamond studded broom stick.

People don't usually say God bless you when I sneeze. It's usually just 'bless you'.

According to the history of it, shouldn't it be "I hope you don't die"

Then we could say, "I hope you don't die either"
