No, he said:
Genesis 2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."

I find this interesting in the story of Adam and Eve.
If God, is ALL knowing, why would He put the tree of good and evil in the middle of the Garden of Eden, then tell Adam and Eve not to touch it, when He already knew that they would?
I believe that if the story were true, then He intentionally placed the tree in the Garden of Eden so that they could touch it and eat of its fruit.
Why?
Well, because Adam and Eve needed to distinguish between good and evil. If you live in "Paradise" and everything is "all good" all the time then, how can you tell the difference between what is good and what is not good/evil? You can't because you don't have a frame of reference or a comparison.

No. He told Adam that he could eat from any tree in the garden except for the tree of knowledge. We must remember that God gave these instructions to Adam, not Eve. Many people want to blame Eve,when in all actuality Adam was the one who is to blame for being disobedient to the God's Word. Did Eve have knowledge that she was not to eat of the tree of knowledge? Yes she did because Adam told her what God said. God never told Eve directly not to eat from the tree.

No, but that was Satan's accusation.
Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” Genesis 3:1

Actually Satan ol' chap, God said every tree could be eaten from. The only exception was the tree used to test man with. The tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Genesis 2:15 And Jehovah God proceeded to take the man and settle him in the garden of E′den to cultivate it and to take care of it. 16 And Jehovah God also laid this command upon the man: “From every tree of the garden you may eat to satisfaction. 17 But as for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die.”
Also notice that God did not say that they would burn in hell, they would just die!

that was Satan who said that trying to put God in a bad light.
Eve replied, No, from the trees of the garden we may eat but of the tree that is in the middle of the garden we may not eat or we will surely die.
Someone was lieing: Satan says, You won't really die at all, you are bond to be like god knowing good and bad.
Later Eve said, He tricked me.
To late: God said, "for dust you are and to dust you will return."
He said, "don't eat it, when he says don't do it he really means it.
God was telling the truth because don't see those two anymore

Genesis 2:16 & 17
And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, though shalt not eat of it: for in the day thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
