Is it true that General George Washington sometimes spoke rudely and profanely to certain of his troops?

There was a story that, in crossing the Delaware, a certain obese soldier was about to make a boat capsize, and Washington admonished him, "Shift your fat ***, Harry, or you'll sink the damned boat!"

It is the province of the millitary to swear and use profane language; Washington was a soldier; it would not surprise me, nor diminish his contribution to history, nor my personal admiration for him, in the least.
