Absolutely!
Although in later life he practiced Jeet Kun Do (spelling?) Which was a style he created with its roots in Kung Fu. So yeah he was the King allright. An intersting article in a medical journal covered the fact that he was faster than what a human was meant to be, or in theory could be. His brain to physical reflex was beyond physical probablity.
And I reckon he could kick Spidies butt.

Apparently, there are a lot of people who are rather ignorant on Bruce Lee and his teachings posting here! I am not going to go on a 10-page rant on why I believe you are correct, but suffice it to say, I think he was, and still is, very influential in martial arts.
How popular would martial arts be today if not for Bruce Lee? Who outside of China would bother seeing kung fu flicks? His impact is still being felt. He had a great natural ability, as some other posters have noted, and he did have roots in Wing Chun. His system of Jeet Kune Do was implementation of several martial arts, and he was reluctant to put a label on it; he didn't want to create a martial art, just a new philosophy on martial arts.
Maybe not the king of kung fu, but definitely a high-ranking official!
Oh, and Jet Li does Wushu, which is the communist martial art with the "martial" removed! Hey, I like him, but he says himself that he has never been in a real fight!

I am definitely a Bruce Lee fan. I don't know if I would call him the king of kung fu. Have you seen the Shaolin Monks perform??? These are individuals who train from a very young age (I think around 4 years old) and continue to train for their entire life. They eat, sleep, and drink Kung fu. In fact, they created it. I think these monks are probably the most dangerous in the world when it comes to fighting and they can do some amazing things that I think even Bruce Lee would find difficult to pull off. Do some research on them and I believe when you're done, you may think differently.

Srry but I cant agree. The best fighters are usually not as well known bruce lee was good but ......
I am reminded of the story of japanese forces in world war 2 invading an island they wanted to ruin the moral of would be resistance fighters so they held a challenge match where they forced an 80 + year old man with a deadly reputation amongst the phillipino islands to fight the current japanese martial arts champion. The old man killed the japanese champion in under 8 seconds. Although, the japanese simply shot him and many others after the fight it goes to show that the most dangerous individuals often do not seem dangerous. perhaps because a truly tough man dosnt need to try to appear as tough to others cause he knows how tough he is and dosnt care what they think or say.

I think that Bruce was a bad actor, and a very good martial artist but that's it. I think that Jet Li is much better. He was a national champion of China. Think how many people there are in China.

well, technically no.

bruce lee adopted the basic principles of kung fu and created an adaptive martial art.

So if changing something to suit how you want it makes you an expert then my new form of karate, which involves sitting down and watching tv, cannot be mastered more than I have!!

But he was good.

He was the Master, I love Bruce. He believed in what works, not whatever looks fanciest. He was a Philosopher, a great artist in his genre.
