Anyone else have this disorder/disease? I was recently diagnosed with it, as congenital, but having a late onset in life. I'm 24, and am hoping to have corrective surgery for my 25 degree deviation. Anyone with experience with this is welcome to answer here. I'm not scared or anything, but would appreciate input from other ordinary people who have experienced this or are close with someone who has. I have read up on this problem, and find that the medical terms are often confusing and not very helpful.

The fourth cranial nerve is called the trochlear nerve, it only does one thing, controling a tiny muscle called the superior oblique. The eye can move around because of 6 muscles inside the orbit that all oppose each other. The main motion caused by the superior oblique is medial rotation, so when it doesn't work, the eye rotates laterally. You probably compensate for that by tilting your head away from the side with the nerve damage. I don't see how they would fix this surgically except to hurt the other muscles so there is nothing to compensate for.

Symptomatic congenital fourth cranial nerve palsy can be treated with strabismus surgery,
..this is where muscle attachment sites on the globe are modified to realign the eyes.
...You may be prescribed Prism lenses set to make minor optical changes in the vertical alignment after surgery to fine-tune the correction.
