Guess what? I used to be just like you. Nervous and tense before stepping into the the dentist office. But, once you are in the chair with your head and body back, and mouth open, your confidence level will go up. Especially when the dentist gives you a shot in the gum. It will sting, and you will feel it, but it will be over soon. Your gum will become numb. However, you will still feel the pressure of your tooth being pulled, but you won't feel the pain. Unless the dentist makes an awful mistake. But, if you would like someone to be with you in the office, I'll be happy to come. That way, when you cry, I will shout out and say, "It's ok baby, just be strong, it'l be over soon."

When I was young I had a very painful experience with a dentist and I became very afraid. When I became older and knew I had to go, I told the dentist about the experience I had when I was young and he would numb my mouth so as I could get my teeth cleaned. The dentist was very understanding. I now get my teeth cleaned without being numbed. You have to talk to your dentist. He should understand your fear, and if he doesn't I suggest you get another dentist.

There are many alternatives nowadays. Mine uses a very very thin needle device, called The Wand, that you barely feel when he is numbing your mouth, so the precedure is pretty much painless. Some doctors will put you to sleep while working on your mouth, but be prepared to pay extra for that--and besides, it adds to the danger of the procedure. You can get nitrous oxide to help you relax. The best thing to do is to relax and cooperate as much as you can. It will be over sooner that way. It's really not that bad, and I should know as I've had a ton of work done on my teeth!

Talk to your dentist. You can't avoid all pain but dentists have some measures they can use if you ask. If your dentist isn't willing to discuss this you may need to find another one who will. Ask your Friends and family who they like. Not many people like to go to the dentist so you are not alone. If you are really scared about going the dentist may prescribe a sedative/anti anxiety med to take before you go.

Many Dentist now will put you to sleep to work on you. You wake up and it's all done. Of course, the after pain or soreness still applies, but, you can be knocked out for the visit. Also, laughing gas is a great way to get dental work done. Your not asleep, but you really don't care.

The dentist uses it. Its called nitrous oxide and novacaine. There is no way for you to do painless dentristry on yourself. Besides the fact that you don't have the knowledge, you probably don't have access to tools or medicine. Just go to the dentist. Let him know that you are nervous, and he will make sure that you are calmed with the proper meds.

I start to cry just sitting down in the chair. Maybe find a dentist who will prescribe a little valium before you come in if the anxiety is too much....

ask the dentist to give you a prescription for a sedative to take an hour before you go in for your visit. You will need someone to drive you to and from your appointment though.
