I think it makes sense, but I would miss the links to the old languages that we borrowed from. I love the evocation of history in those old words.

Which simplified spelling plan? The one that throws out redundant letters? The one that spells words the way they sound?
I don't think either one is a useful alternative to what we have. Those redundant letters influence how the word is pronounced. And spelling words the way they sound would be a great idea if everyone pronounced words the same way and there were no regional accents. Can you imagine how a Southern Carolina Belle would write a phrase and how a New Englander would write the same phrase, and a native of New Delhi would write it? It would look like it was in three different languages. As least with consistant spelling, we can all turn to a dictionary if we aren't sure of the precise meaning of a word.

It's ridiculous. Learn to spell like the rest of us. How are you going to get billions of people that already know how to spell using the current system to change to a different set. It can't be done overnight. Even if you started now, it would take decades to begin sneaking in the alternate spellings for words that have been spelled virtually the same for centuries.

I don't know. I think, in theory, it is a good idea. However, I don't think that it will catch on with people who know how to speak English the way it is now, and we've been fine with the English that we have now and have had for so long, right? haha. I don't know, i mean it would be so much easier and stuff, but I don't know! haha!

It is the stupidest idea that I have ever read! I'm not in the mood to learn a bunch more spelling rules.

it just proves that teachers aren't doing their jobs and neither are students...i mean, if we can't just learn to spell some words correctly, what does that say about how lazy we all are? it's annoying and words should just be kept the same
