I work at a preschool with 3-4 yr. olds. I think people are skeptical at first, but once you show your kindness, creativity, nurturing, etc. then parents, children, and coworkers alike will be comfortable. I've had comments from "why are you doing this job?" to "you're doing a great job".....so as long as you enjoy what you're doing and are good at it, I say definitely go for it. I don't know about you, but I like breaking stereotypes.

Child Day Care Providers are men and women.

Some states are finally getting smart and doing background checks on both sexes to see if they have any past legal problems, pedophiles etc. If everything is OK they can be certified and work. Most Day Care establishments have both men and women working or at least more than 2 people depending on size.

More and More people are working their schedules around their children so that one parent is always home with the child. Mom works one shift and dad works another.......

Parents are the best day care!

PS: Many Day Care places have cameras that you can go on-line and look around at any time while you are at work to see what your child is doing. Man or woman you need to be careful these days who watches your child.

Yes. I am a Day Care teacher and would love it if there was more men in the field.

Unfortunately, a lot of people have a sick, stereo-typical point of view when it comes to men working in day care.

One centre I worked in had a man in the school-age program and it was great for the boys. There are a lot of female teachers who are not interested in the things that boys are interested in, so it is helpful to have a man there.

No, not if you have to ask.
I say that because then I want to know why you are asking. That is like a man working at a school and being the principle.
As long as there is no ulterior motive behind it such as molesting the children. Or as long as they have not had any charges pending or previous on them for pedophilia or child molestation. But that does not just pertain to a man but a woman also.

if he wants to.... sure!
I have to admit though, it does give me pause.
My daughters both attend a day care run by a man, and even though I trust they are being well-looked after, I still find myself eyeing the guy suspiciously and thinking "why are you in this line of work?"
I've probably just seen too many episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Why wouldn't he? It doesn't hurt for young children to see a man in a nuturing role. When I was in college I held a morning cook's job at the local women's crisis center. Little children who had bad experiences with abusive men had a chance to see the other side as well.

As long as he is not a paedophile and leaves nappy changing and helping them in the toilets (just to cover himself) to woman then definatly. Men bring a different form of caring to kids. A lot of kids need a positive male role model in their lives

Why not? Loving and caring for children in no way constitutes "loving" them in an improper manner, unless there's adequate evidence to support that possibility.

I think it would be fine. This is like asking if a man should be a teacher. All that matters is that you are good with kids and are willing to do it.

Normally, I would say its ok, but with that avatar... absolutely not, man. Your avatar is scary-looking and so I think you probably are too. You should not work with kids unless you look squeaky-clean, act squeaky-clean and have a perfectly clean life and past.
