In actuality, marijuana is a very dangerous drug and should NOT be legalized.
In the short term, marijuana users suffer loss of coordination and distortions in their sense of time, vision and hearing. Other effects are sleepiness, reddening of the eyes, increased appetite and relaxed muscles. Heart rate can speed up. In fact, in the first hour of smoking marijuana, a user’s risk of a heart attack increases at least five-fold. School performance is reduced through impaired memory and lessened ability to solve problems.
Long-term use can cause psychotic symptoms. It can also damage the lungs and the heart, worsen the symptoms of bronchitis and cause coughing and wheezing. It may reduce the body’s ability to fight lung infections and illness.

YES ~ if alcohol is legal and it impairs your abilities then why shouldn't marijuana be legal with the same kinds of restrictions?
Don't cigarettes and alcohol have these same types of negative effects? They are both legal with age restrictions. Why should one mind altering substance be treated differently than another. I am not about to say that pot doesn't make some people stupid. It does. Each person reacts differently. What I can say is that I have never smoked weed then passed out and choked on my own vomit no matter how much I smoked. But I have woken up in the hospital being treated for severe alcohol poisoning. And before anyone gets all RAWR on me, yes that was my own stupid fault for consuming much more than my body could handle. Cigarettes kill and cause brain damage and those are still legal as well. I think that as Americans we should be given the freedom to choose to legally relax at night after work without having to choose alcohol as our drug of choice just because it is legal.

Yes. Given the damage to our social fabric casued by the illegality of this plant it should be made legal. George Washington our founding father smoked marijuana for crying out loud. The main reason Marijuana is illegal is beacue of the threat that hemp posed to the cotton industry.
Is Marijuana a drug, hell yeah, and so is oxygen. And like any drug it has the potential to be abused by those who are inclined to do so. However Marijuana has health risks lower then those of Alcohol and Tabacco. I personally don't feel minors should be allowed to smoke, but if we as a society could regulate this natural product it would be far more beneficial then the break up of family and incarceration expenses currently imposed by our nations false war on drugs.

marijuana should not be legalized because of the effects it will have on people today. It stimulates the brain in a non consequence free environment but in a bad way. Plus, some of it is used for patients in severe pain, but I say, take pain killers instead of drug use. In addition, it is also having a bad influence on kids on the streets. To sum it all, drugs will only be damaging our brains even though a little is being used. There will be no use of those kinds of drugs in the fture when many healthy medicines will be made.

People will give you a lot of answers but the fact is Cigs and Beer do more damage to Americans than all the other drugs combined. I agree with you completely but most Americans won't. Marijuana is a plant that grows in most places in the world. You don't do anything to it, you don't process it or alter it or add anything to it. Its 100% natural.
Land of the Free............we should be able to do what ever we want to our bodies, not just what the Government tells us we can.

For medical purposes, yes. It's the best available treatment for glaucoma. It's hypocritical to keep more harmful drugs like alcohol and tobacco legal while keeping marijuana illegal. I would never smoke it myself, but it should be available to anyone with a medical need.

Hell ya they should have made alcohol illegal instead of pot. You don't get stupid on pot. The worst that would happen is you would get fat and lazy, but for most people it isn't like that it just relaxes them from thier daily stress and for some people it allows them to enjoy life more. LEGALIZE IT !!! It will never happen to many goverment agencies will loose money and jobs if they did that.

Yes, marijuana should be legalized. If you are a religious person, unlike me, then God put it here. Was it a test? Is he a practical joker? Could he have made a mistake, then said, "oh ****, now I have to make republicans to take it away!"

Big old negative there. In college, I watched two friends, one a reasonable brilliant mathematician become addle brained slobs that could not do anything without smoking a bowl. One lost his scholarship, his girlfriend, and was kicked out of school because of grades but he never lost his "Mary Jane"! I scoff at anyone who says it's harmless.
